Building Trade Tools and Equipment New Government schemes give a boost to the building trade

In this article last year I reported that discussions in the Government were ongoing for the Energy Bill for 2010/11. In October the bill was given Royal Assent and became the Energy Act 2011. The Act provides for a step change in the provision of energy efficiency

measures to homes and businesses, and makes improvements to the framework to enable and secure low-carbon energy supplies and fair competition in the energy markets. It creates a new financing framework to enable the provision of fixed improvements to the energy efficiency of households and non-domestic properties, funded by a charge on energy bills that avoids the need for consumers to pay upfront costs. This ‘Green Deal’ is designed to put energy saving within easy reach for millions of householders, both owners and tenants. The Government have stated that this will kick start at least £14 billion of

investment in the decade to 2022, and support at least 65,000 insulation and construction jobs by 2015. In his statement to the commons last November, Chris Huhne stated ‘We must prepare our homes and businesses for this century, not the last. Turning the oldest building stock in Europe into the most improved, with a nationwide commitment to energy efficiency.” Another scheme launched in March called NewBuy is set to help

homebuyers currently shut out of the housing market and boost housing construction across the country, creating thousands of jobs and driving up economic growth. The scheme will mean that as many as 100,000 buyers currently unable to purchase a home will be able to use a 95% mortgage to get a foot on, or take their next step up, the property ladder. This in turn will provide a much-needed boost to housing construction and will see 50,000 jobs created and safeguarded on sites all around England with more established in the supply chain. This is all good news for the construction industry and the companies that

support these industries. Schemes such as these that give a boost to the Building Trade, both for refurbishments and new builds mean more sales for the retailer of Building Trade Tools and Equipment.
