A Volvo EC18C Opting for their first Volvo compact excavator has proved to be the right decision for Andrew Pike Builders of Cheriton Bishop, near Exeter thanks to good performance, reliability and support from Volvo’s local utility equipment dealer Plant & Engineering Services according to proprietor Andrew Pike. “This is the first time we’ve tried a Volvo mini excavator having been associated

with other brands in the past,” says Andrew. “So far we’ve been pleasantly surprised with the EC18C in terms of its digging performance, geometry, build quality and operator comfort. In addition the team at Plant &Engineering Services have been very supportive as well living up to the third party references we took when we were considering the change,” he continues. The new Volvo EC18C is one of four machines ranging between 1.5 and 2.0

tonnes that have been available on the GB market since the autumn of 2010 and is a direct replacement for the EC15B XTV model. Powered by a 12.3 Kw (16.8hp) engine, the machine features automatic two speed travel and extendable undercarriage as standard. One significant change on the new models is that hydraulic hoses for the digging equipment are now routed through the boom and cylinders are top mounted to minimize on site damage. The machine supplied to Andrew Pike Builders is fitted with a ROPS canopy – a full cab version is also available. The 1.8 tonne compact excavator also benefits from load-sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times, even when carrying out multiple functions. Maximum dig depth is a generous 2.3 metres. A full complement of buckets together with quick hitch and an anti-theft system have been supplied with the machine.
