Bobcat soil conditioners are built tougher and require less maintenance. They have a larger displacement motor with direct drive and no chains like other brands do, and they’re protected by a seal guard to keep out dirt and dust. Competitors rely on grease to keep dirt and dust out of their soil conditioner bearings.
Bobcat soil conditioners have frames with a large pivot pin, which is a key load-bearing point and fully welded frame for greater strength. Competitive frames have U-bolts and fewer welds that are not as strong. A competitive bolster frame is attached with a U-bolt and a smaller shaft supports a smaller pneumatic tire. Problems arise with competitive soil conditioners and their chain drives. Other brands add more time and mess to every inspection, and chain idlers and rollers are plastic.

Bobcat soil conditioner angle movements are integrated with the skid- steer or compact track loader controls. To use angle controls with another brand, it requires wires to be strung from the attachment into the cab to a switch that is mounted in the cab. Then, wires are weaved through the window, back to the battery and clamped to it. To use the competitor’s angle controls, the operator has to remove his hand from the controls to reach the switch.
Operators of other brands must stop the machine and get out to manually adjust the soil conditioner’s depth control. Bolster wheels are closer to the drum and operators can’t carry as much material.
Bobcat soil conditioners offer increased front-wheel oscillation to help angle and tilt to create swales and slopes, for lifting and tilting the attachment. Optional hydraulic depth control and angle are available for better grade control. A longer, wider bolster design makes it easier for material to enter between wheels and the drum, providing better grade control. Foam-fi lled tires eliminate fl at tires, and they’re not available on other brands.
