Products Lift trucks Evolution in efficiency and performance

The new 8-16 tonne trucks from Yale is said to offer an evolution in both operator efficiency and truck performance to deliver maximum productivity. Rising costs of fuel and the demands of cus- tomers for increased efficiency led to the launch of the heavy duty, diesel engine forklift truck series. Designed to use less fuel and be more productive than the previous series, the GDP80-120DC and GDP130-160EC benefit from the advances originally introduced in the company’s Veracitor VX series, specifically in the areas of powertrain and hydraulic configurations. With longer servicing intervals, increased uptime and reduced servicing costs, the DC and EC series of 8-16T trucks offer lower lifetime cost of ownership and greater productivity. Available in two configurations both use a high performance 116kW (155hp) @2300rpm diesel engine combining durability over longer periods of peak operation with excellent acceleration and hauling power. Fuel savings of up to five per cent are achieved through the Load Sensing Hydraulics system, which uses variable displacement hydraulic pumps to sense demand and deliv- er the exact amount of hydraulic oil required to meet the demands of the application. The new Cat EP13-20PNT range of 48 volt electric lift trucks have been unveiled at a launch event at Impact Handling in Corby. Jery Mom, from Cat Lift Trucks headquarters says the new trucks have been developed in conjunc- tion with Nichiyu, the Japanese electric lift truck manufacturer. Ergonomic design elements that improve the working envi- ronment include a large access ‘window’ on each side, a low step height and plenty of foot room. Noise levels at the driver's ear have been reduced to 66/67dB and electric power steering makes operation effort- less and links to the Intuitive

VNA truck launched for European market

Leading articulated forklift truck manufacturer, Flexi Narrow Aisle, has launched a European HiTech version of its Flexi VNA AC truck. A four-wheel, electric- powered articulated truck, the Flexi VNA AC was first intro- duced to the UK in 2010, and has enjoyed significant success thanks to its ability to work in aisles some 200mm narrower than comparative models. The new version has been adapted to meet the demands of the market in mainland Europe. It has a narrower chassis than the UK version, while electric motor and hydraulic noise has been reduced

Patented features of pallet trucks were developed for use where high hygiene standards are essential, such as the food and pharmaceutical industries. Open forks, polymeric bearings, plastic coated cabling and curved surfaces make stainless steel trucks easier to clean and keep clean. Even the electric powered machinery can be jet washed. At the heart of the truck is a compact front wheel drive axle design which, combined with the four-wheel Flexi VNA’s ability to truly articulate through 220 degrees, allows easy and safe stacking and minimal manoeu- vring in the aisleways. Custom designed forklift brakes The standard PK-35 brake is used

in many forklift and materials handling applications around the world. However, when develop- ing its latest three-wheeled prod- uct, Yale Lift Trucks, requested design parameters such as pack- aging, heat dissipation and spe- cial manual release that required a high degree of customisation to the standard design.

Mathieu Ruault, Warner Electric Forklift and Material Handling market manager, com- ments: “The level of re-design for this project was such that the fin- ished components were virtually 100 per cent bespoke.”

The modified PK-35 brake is an integral component on sev- eral different series of Yale and Hyster brands 1,300 to 1,800kg capacity sit down counterbalance trucks. It is also

Speed Control (ISC) which slows the truck when cornering, pro- tecting the driver and load. The trucks are designed to work indoors and out, whatever the weather. Longer service inter- vals lower running costs while features such as LED lighting, sideways battery exchange and high residual mast strength add to operational efficiency. SICK UK has added a new forklift truck (FLT) detection capability to its M4000 light curtain range to permit pallet loading and unloading into light guard- ed areas, such as infeed and outfeed conveyor systems, whilst protecting the safety of personnel. The M4000 FLT multiple light beam entry and exit protection system is sup- plied with an easy to connect FLT ground loop detection system that can be configured to recognise forklifts and pallet trucks permitted to enter a protected area. “Loading and unloading of pallets in

hazardous areas around machines has always presented problems when trying to restrict personnel access. By the very nature of their size, pallet convey- ors offer ample opportunity for either intentional or unsuspecting access to hazardous machinery by people,” explains Seb Strutt, senior product manager for Sick UK.

“Sick worked closely with customers to develop a solution that restricts human access but allows FLTs to pick up and drop off loads across a light- guarded perimeter without triggering machine shut-down.” Sick
