Spirax Sarco helps Courtaulds become the UK’s first eco-factory supplier to Marks and Spencer
Autobag delivers return on spares bagging investment in fewer than 5 months
two Autobag AB180 automated bagging systems. The new packaging set-up has reduced labour requirements from 28 in peak periods to just two, but increased bagging rates from 120 packs an hour to more than 480.
S
pares for market leading heating and hot water systems are now bagged four times faster with
Bottlenecks have been
eliminated and a return on investment achieved in fewer than five months. Tamper evident bags are pre-printed, increasing
brand value, then overprinted with product, barcode and traceability data on a inline thermal transfer printer, improving green credentials by removing the need for paper labels. They bag spares for heating and hot water systems. What will you bag?™

pirax Sarco’s steam system expertise and long-term support have helped Courtaulds' West Mill hosiery plant in Belper, Derbyshire become Marks & Spencer's first UK supplier site to gain eco-factory status. The story doesn’t end there, as Spirax Sarco is currently helping Courtaulds on production improvements and upgrades that could deliver significant savings in steam consumption at the Belper site. Courtaulds gained eco-factory status last year, making it the first UK supplier site to win the coveted recognition from M&S. The eco-factory scheme is part of the wider drive by M&S to operate its entire supply chain more sustainably, with only 18 M&S suppliers around the world making the grade at that time. “Without the assistance and technical support of Spirax Sarco we wouldn’t have achieved the targets we’ve managed so far, let alone our future energy saving targets,” says Courtaulds’ Group Engineering Manager Steve Large. “We have to save energy wherever possible – it’s the way we’ll stay in business.”

for light measurement L
optical,
absphere, Inc. has introduced the illumia® and illumia®pro series of LED and light measurement systems. The new systems offer flexibility in measuring thermal,
characteristics of LEDs and arrays, as well as solid state and
traditional lighting products. illumia and illumia®pro Light Measurement Systems scalable to fit application and budget. With a choice of four spectrometers and integrating sphere options ranging in size from 25cm to 195cm, illumia systems are highly customizable for any budget or application. The spectrometers’ wide dynamic ranges mean that a single integrating sphere system can measure a broad scope of light levels. The illumia systems measure Total Spectral Flux, Luminous Flux, Radiant Flux, Chromaticity, CCT and CRI, Peak Wavelength, Dominant Wavelength I, V, and Luminous Efficacy. With the addition of a TEC temperature control and monitoring component, the illumia pro also delivers complete Thermal, Optical and Electrical characterization of LEDs. Labsphere’s MtrX-SPEC software delivers spectral results in milliseconds that conform to global standards and measurement geometries.

contaminants and particulates. After 18 years of successfully protecting people and processes with Tyvek® Classic, DuPont has developed the second generation coverall, Tyvek® Classic Xpert, to provide superior level of protection and comfort in the Type 5/6 category. The new design and construction holds out 99.2% of dust (1) and three times more liquid (2) than its predecessor. It is lightweight and durable, and it incorporates innovative design features that ensure an exceptional level of wearer and process protection. And yet it has been launched at the same price as Tyvek® Classic, so that workers can be protected with enhanced coveralls that remain economically viable for businesses.

New Fork Lift Truck Detection Capability for Sick’s M4000 Safety Light Curtains
ICK UK has added a new fork lift truck (FLT) detection capability to its leading M4000 light curtain range to permit pallet loading and unloading into light guarded areas, such as infeed and outfeed conveyor systems, whilst protecting the safety of personnel. The M4000 FLT multiple light beam entry and exit protection system is supplied with an easy to connect FLT ground loop detection system that can be configured to recognise forklifts and pallet trucks permitted to enter a protected area. The versatile M4000 FLT can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications. The FLT ground loop detection system incorporates an IP65 enclosure with connection cables and controllers for two independent loop detection systems. Installation simply requires the loop controller channels to be connected to the M4000’s IP67 connection box. Configurable muting functions enable each application to be tuned for difficult and challenging entry and exit monitoring tasks with far greater versatility than is possible with conventional optically-based muting systems.

hose working in occupations which involve spending time in cold environments are at risk of hypothermia or ‘cold stress’ and need workwear that will provide sufficient thermal protection. Arco, the UK’s leading safety company, has worked with its cold store customers to develop products for this unique environment and has launched a full range of clothing,
T footwear, gloves, head protection and
thermal base layers which will keep workers who operate in cold storage areas safe. Research carried out by Arco revealed some major problems experienced with the existing ranges of cold store clothing. Cold store garment components often cracked at extreme temperatures, bulky clothing restricted movements and didn’t allow for layering below and cold store garments were susceptible to becoming scuffed, torn and damaged, reducing essential thermal protection. The garments in the new Arco cold store clothing range have been designed to eliminate these problems. Cold store workers can be confident that the garments are robust, hard wearing and water repellent and entirely machine washable. All the components are tested to perform at low temperatures and have been specifically designed to enable good freedom of movement and to allow for base layers to be worn comfortably.
