“Human beings are wired to pay attention to first impressions; it’s a cool evolutionary-based defence mechanism. So how good is your website? Your reception area? Your telephone answering? Your customer’s car parking?”
Wards Words People say it takes 10 seconds to form an opinion, these can last a lifetime.
If it’s not right, there will be no lifetime with the customer, no trade, no till ringing and zero money exchanging hands, the little stuff does matter, if it’s broken fix it, but first, look at everything with fresh eyes. Your two allies are a pen and an A4 notebook. Write it down, all of it, even the good stuff as well as the bad. Then get busy and sort it.

ince its inception in 1987, STAG Buying Group has grown to be the largest
membership-buying group in the UK for independent sports and outdoor retailers. STAG and their sister brand Freedom now has 130 suppliers for their 470 members. This growth has also extended to the Irish Republic. Since March 2009, the
group has managed to grow membership from 1 retailer to 70 in March 2012. With the Irish suffering from the traumatic effects of the global financial crisis, this is no mean feat.
STAG has largely managed
to attract new members due to the quality of the suppliers they have been able to secure. STAG has taken on Irish based suppliers Lee Sport, KTR and Daricia. Recent new additions to the supplier base include Merrell and Converse for all of Ireland, as well as Levis Footwear and Accessories, Kickers, Rockport and Oakley. Within the membership base
in Ireland 30% are from the specialist shoe trade, Ireland’s largest specialist outdoor store is part of Freedom, the outdoor buying group of STAG. Due to the growth in Ireland, STAG subsequently introduced
the STAG Buying Show to Ireland in 2010. The show took place at the Tullamore Court Hotel in Country Offaly and was a complete sell out of exhibitors and attracted 90% attendance from members. The same figures were also achieved in 2011. Commenting on the growth
in Ireland, Ward Robertson, MD of STAG remarks, “The Independent Sports, Outdoor and Shoe trade have voted overwhelmingly that STAG is the no. 1 clear choice for both buyers and suppliers.” The 2012 show takes place on Sunday 21st October and Monday 22nd October at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
