Do you have a buying group affiliation? Yes we belong to Intersport
Unique Selling Point? We pride ourselves on having
the right product available for our customers at the right time and give them sound, knowledgeable advice on the products they require. We do not try to be the cheapest but are very conscious that we must retain the trust and reliable service we have built over many years. We have many regular “family customers” who come to us as children and then generations later come in with their children!

How are recent trading conditions?
We are in the deepest and longest recession for many years coupled with terrible April weather, so turnover and profits are down. We are however a very sound business and every recession will eventually end and with luck we may get some decent weather and with our ‘Summer of Sport’ business will improve.
3
Are you undertaking any initiatives to take
advantage of the Olympics or Euro 2012? The Olympics are a great form of advertising for our trade. We expect the Olympics to have a positive effect on all sports but especially Athletics, Swimming and Hockey and we will be stocking these in greater depth. We are also stocking a moderate range of the Adidas ‘replica’ range of products although we have been cautious with this as we believe the market could be saturated with a host of similar.
4
What recent supplier initiatives have been
successful? The most successful we have had as Intersport members were last July/ August when Adidas did an excellent promotion on their Predator Intersport football range. The product was good, well promoted and it was a commercial success.
5
How can suppliers improve their service?
They must be more efficient and make ordering processes as straightforward as possible. We have to continually chase up detailed order acknowledgements from many suppliers.
6
Are there any future challenges to the
business? Any business even successful ones need a “kick” to meet changing circumstances so we will continue to question and endeavour to improve our business. Society keeps evolving and so businesses must keep adapting or you will be left behind. We particularly hope to develop our e-commerce activity with a new host and design company who have just been contracted for our website.
