With Clinton Cards’ being placed in administration, the news we are offi cially back in
a recession and the horrendous weather that has put paid to any substantial early season cricket trade, it has been a month to dampen (excuse the pun!) the spirits of even the most optimistic amongst us.
As high street trading is at a premium these days, thinking ‘outside the box’ has never been so important. This month SGB investigates the potential of the student market to the sports trade. In areas with a high student concentration, students may be an untapped revenue source due to the increasing numbers playing sport. It may be a waste of time for some retailers due to their location, but for some with local universities nearby, they should certainly not underestimate students’ buying power if the price and product is right.
The UK is slowly building up to ‘Olympic fever’ and we at SGB are no diff erent. Our June issue sees a Patriotic Product special where we will showcase the latest products likely to be popular, the latest sports industry Olympic news and various other titbits to try and help boost revenue. If you have any products suitable, please get in touch with us!
Or failing that, if anyone knows of any spare tickets, they would be a great addition to our competition pages!
Be Lucky.
