4WAYS F Choochlexible Walls

to use the new

Chooch offers a new line of pre-stained flexi- ble stone wall sections. Made of super- detailed vinyl, they come in 6 different de- signs, three in cut stone and three in random stone. All six designs fit all scales, depending on the size of stone you need for your model scene. Each wall is approximately 3.5” x 13.5” in length and less than 1/8” thick. Easy to install, each wall comes with a peel

and stick adhesive, which adheres to any smooth surface. You can cut each wall with a No. 11 blade, half razor or even scissors.

MAKE HIGHER WALLS

On each cut stone wall, the bottom three rows are larger stones as in the prototype (the large stones carry the heavier load of the wall). Simply cut those larger stones from the bottom with scissors or #11 razor and you can stack the walls as high as you need.

MAKE LONGER WALLS

Each wall is designed to inter-connect and make a continuous wall (See Fig. 1). Take a No. 11 blade or half razor and cut between the stones on each end, removing the flash between each stone. You can make a wall as long as you want. You can use any filler to smooth the gaps between the stones. I personally like Red Devil spackling, a water-base acrylic filler. Modeling clay would also work wel. You can apply either filler with a small spatula and create a texture with a soft toothbrush or your finger. If you would like to add any color washes to the rock walls, it’s best to com-

Each wall comes pre-painted and you can

add other color washes. You can install them right out of the package or enhance the color for specific geographic locations. Chooch recommends any water base acrylic paint for finishing. Acrylic paint bonds very well, espe- cially with a soapy water wash of 25% to 50%, water-to-paint ratio.

plastic make great surfaces (See Fig. 3). You can cut each stone as needed, maybe a wedge or tapered stone, depending what you want to model. You can also make your own abutments or bridge piers by applying these stone walls to a block of wood or pink foam.

  MAKE A WALL LOOK THICKER

You can make each wall look thicker, even though they are 1/8” thick or less (See Fig. 4). In order to match the stones, it takes two walls to make sure they match. Use a good backing, like plywood or hard board. Then cut identical rows of rock and put one on top of the rigid surface. The top row is 90 degrees to the front wall. Then blend the gap on the top edge with your gap filler. I used gray model- ing clay to fill in the edge.

plete the walls you wish to install, first. Then you can add color to the whole scene for a more unifying effect. You may wish to add scenic vines or ground foam to each wall too. Adding green flora is a great color contrast to the stone colors.

MAKE A STONE ARCH SHAPE

I think the most fun part of these walls is us- ing each individual stone to create an arch or a stone foundation (See Fig. 2). You can cut a row of stones with scissors to make individ- ual stones. It is best to remove the adhesive backing and mount the stones to your de- sired surface. Pink foam, plywood or sheet-
