NiNews Sleep-deprived UK parents ditch alarm clocks

The Gro Company is hoping to help parents of young children across the UK switch to BST – no, not British Summer Time but Better Sleep Time! If this sounds all too familiar, take heart! Thousands of households across the country are ticking along to the body clocks of their children and a recent study commissioned by The Gro Company, shows that parents everywhere have unplugged their alarm clocks in exasperation at their little ones' all-too-early morning start. The Gro Company, makers of Grobag, commissioned the research in March 2012, among 2,000 parents of UK children under the age of seven. It shows that three out of five UK parents (60%) feel controlled by their child's sleeping pattern some or all of the time. The study also found 45% of them admit to relying on their children to wake them up some or all of the time, with a quarter (26%) claiming never to use an alarm clock at all. But the pain doesn't end there for our beleaguered parents, with more than a third (36%)

agreeing that their children always wake up earlier than they would like. Catherine Fairchild at The Gro Company, said: “We know how difficult it can be for children to understand when it is acceptable to get up in the morning. Often, they believe their day starts – and that of the whole family - when they first wake up, whatever time that is. All too often and particularly with lighter mornings that might be five or six am. The Gro-clock was created to provide parents with a useful tool to set parameters on sensible rising hours. “Accompanied by the bedtime story book, the Gro-clock ensures children evolve their attitudes

towards starting their day and the whole family is set to benefit.” www.gro.co.uk

A big tweet from a little sheep!

Worcestershire based organic baby specialists The Little Green Sheep were thrilled to have been selected as winners in business mogul Theo Paphitis’s online twitter awards Small Business Sunday. Each Sunday small businesses are encouraged to tweet Theo, describing their business in less than 140 characters. The Dragon, who has 230,000 followers then retweets his favourite six. With so few words to get their message across, The

Little Green Sheep tweeted… “@TheoPaphitis Theo, please RT The Little Green Sheep...Stand B42 at The Harrogate Nursery Fair. http://www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk #sbs” a simple way to demonstrate to Theo how the brand is driving brand awareness via trade fairs, their commitment to growth and the significant success and developments so far. Out of the thousands that entered, their tweet caught Theo's eye and they were chosen as one of his top six small businesses in March 2011. Following their win The Little Green Sheep were invited to an awards ceremony which took place last week. During the event the Little Green Sheep were presented with a certificate by Theo himself and were lucky enough to listen to Theo talk passionately about business, needless to say a few tips were picked up during the afternoon! Commenting on their award Marketing Manager, and co-founder, Mark Nichols said: “I’m

extremely proud to be an #SBS Winner and to be part of such a worthwhile community of small businesses. Since our Retweet, we have seen a massive increase in our social following and it has certainly opened up our eyes to the power of online social media and networking. Having Theo behind the scheme is great to help small businesses get the exposure that they deserve!” It all goes to show a timely tweet can travel a long way! www.thelittlegreensheep.co.uk
