What advice would you give to jobseekers and career-movers for a successful interview? The biggest mistake is not bothering to learn about Eutechnyx – we only want passionate, proactive people, so if you can’t be bothered to play our products and understand our business this says a lot about your real interest in the position. Be prepared to spend some time with us – we’ll want different people from all over our business to meet you and this takes logistics to organise. And do the basics well – check on

travel arrangements, arrive on time, know your CV and be prepared to talk through your demo and showreel. And if at first you don’t succeed,

don’t be downhearted – some of our best employees didn’t get in first time round but proved that they had the tenacity to keep on trying to achieve their goal.

How many people are you currently looking to hire? And from what specific fields? We are busy, busy, busy at the moment, recruiting in both the North East and London. You may have seen in the press that

we have recently had a Regional Growth Funding award, where we are looking to recruit about 180 staff over the next three years. Our website www.eutechnyx.com is the best place to keep updated on new vacancies. Currently opportunities include:

web, network and server programmers for Auto Club Revolution,

NEW STUDIO ALERT!

FORMER STAFF OF EA, PopCap and Atari have formed a new studio together in Dulin, Ireland. Digit Game Studios, which has already

become the country’s largest independent studio, was set up about eight months ago. Its founding members include former Jagex management team member Richard Barnwell, Atari and Hasbro marketing director Martin Frain and PopCap mobile QA lead David McGovern. Barnwell, the studio’s CEO, said he and

his fellow co-founders were attracted to Dublin because of the keen interest they received from government agencies and the access to a plethora of talent, the large web companies and middleware developers who preside there. Digit Game Studios will focus on

creating and publishing original IP for multiple platforms.

“We were talking to people in the UK and their excitement around new tech start-ups just wasn’t the same,” said Barnwell. “The people we were talking to just weren’t really getting behind it. “In Ireland, as soon as we started

talking to people and showed them what we wanted to do, we had double the agencies wanting to sign. “We were very lucky. We had quite a

few different offers from interested parties but the Irish ones moved fastest.” Digit received more than £1m during its seed funding round, a significant amount for a fledging start-up. “We chose Dublin because of the

ability to access best-in-class talent, the great support from Enterprise Ireland and the general buzz around the cities start-up scene,” said Barnwell. “We hope to hire locally and to attract

some top-class people from around the games world.”

as well as programmers experienced in browser, iOS, Android and tablet. Plus, console development

programmers for new and existing hardware systems, especially those people looking for career development in programming management; and several roles in our marketing and publishing team for Auto Club Revolution and future titles. Don’t also assume all of our vacancies are in racing and driving – we also have the action adventure game Ride to Hell in the works.

Do you think games development education in the UK is currently good enough? Eutechnyx believes strongly in our ‘don’t complain – do something about it’ mantra. We have always worked hand-in- hand with the best universities, offering syllabus advice, external examiners, studio tour days, placement schemes and guest lectures. There are some fantastic universities offering first-class courses that we work with very closely on our award-winning Graduate Academy ‘Level Up’ scheme. Our advice is to always research any

proposed university course well. Does it have examples of graduates working in the industry, do the modules and opportunities offered match your expectations, and does the games industry actually use the languages being taught? You are paying a lot of money for

the courses so ensure that it will deliver on your investment.
