grade crossing signal, and timed sin- gle-shot operation of an uncoupling ramp type solenoid. We operated Atlas and an old Kemtron twin-coil switch machines, both from a 16 VAC trans- former and from a capacitor-discharge power supply (a Peter Thorne designed unit using a 2200 micro farad capaci- tor). These last tests used the timed output feature to limit the “on” cycle to one second. The Aux-Box handled all of these loads with no problems. The Aux-Box comes with a very well written manual that describes the oper- ation and programming of the device. It effectively guides even a novice user about how to set the CV’s. It also has step-by-step instructions for setting the Aux-Box address and programming the CV’s with the board connected to Digi- Trax, Lenz, MRC, and NCE DCC sys- tems. The manual is downloadable from the Aux-Box website. The circuit board includes provisions

for four additional 8 Amp switches. The board comes with all of the logic for these additional outputs, but is missing the MOS-FET output transis- tors. The purchaser can return the Aux-Box to the factory to have these devices installed if needed. Aux-Box can also supply an “HC” version of the board with these components installed; contact them via their website. The DCC controller processor on the Aux- Box is software upgradeable at the fac- tory for future improvements.

The Aux-Box offers several capabili-

ties that can be useful on DCC con- trolled layouts, and is easy to install and set-up. The eight output Aux-Box lists for $119.95.—GARY QUALE

40-foot drop frame parcel trailer: N scale Mfg. by Trainworx, P.O. Box 127,

Delta, CO 81416; www.train-worx.com. To say that 2011 was a year of firsts

for N scale would be an understate- ment. N scale modelers have seen more new products delivered than any other year that I can remember. Trainworx finished 2011 off with a bang with their 40-foot, drop-frame parcel trailers. This trailer was the pri- mary trailer used by United Parcel Service (UPS) and was seen on most railroads throughout the late 1960’s and 1970’s. I am an Erie Lackawanna modeler and had always faced the diffi- cult task of modeling train NY100. This train, like those on other rail- roads, saw huge amounts of UPS traf- fic. Until Trainworx offered these trail- ers, this train was nearly impossible to model correctly. To say that this is a big deal for N scale modelers is under- stating the obvious. The 40-foot, drop-frame parcel trail-

er is being offered lettered for UPOZ, UPSZ and undecorated. The UPOZ trail- er is offered with the yellow stripe and without striping. The UPSZ trailer is of- fered with the red nose, red stripe and
