2012), Mike Myers notes that he finds Reynolds parchment paper will not adhere to CyA. That hasn't worked for me, and I was wondering what brand and type of CyA he uses. Perhaps it makes a difference (I don’t know). I have been using HobbyTown USA brand (I’m sure that they are simply re-brand- ing stuff they buy from someone; however, they do have other name brands available). TOM WEISGERBER via e-mail
Tom, you’ve got me curious with your prob-
lems about Hobby Town USA brand. The biggest manufacturer of CyA hobby glues I know of is Bob Smith Industries in Atas- cadero, CA. I buy most of the CyA glue I use from Robin’s Hobbies, a local hobby shop here in Glendale. The glues are labelled “Robin's Hobbies” but the label on the back of the glue bottle says “Distributed by BSI Atascadero, CA”. Bob Smith Industries sells a wide range of CyAs and other adhesives. You might look at their web site at
www.bsi-inc.com. I just went into my wife’s kitchen, cut a
piece of Reynolds brand parchment paper and went out to the garage. I glued two balsa

is being held at the Fraternal Association of R/C Modelers (F.A.R.M.) club field at Wrightsville, AR near Little Rock. Improvements to the flying site are always happening. The variety of model aircraft that are brought to this event is staggering, from mini, micro, and parkflyers, to multi-engine mar- vels, and fabulous helis. Come to fly, swap, sell, or just spectate; everyone is welcome. There are six motels located only minutes from the field.

sticks (3⁄32 by 1⁄4) at right angles using thin CyA glue. I flooded the area with too much glue. That’s always a problem with thin CyA—it’s easy for it to get to places where you don’t want it. While the glue was still wet and had- n’t cured there was some sticking to the parch- ment paper. I then sprayed the area with kick- er and the glue cured. I was able to lift the two sticks off the paper with no problem. They had not stuck and the glue was cured. So I tried another experiment. I made a
puddle of “thick” Robins Hobbies CA glue on the sheet of parchment paper. I sprayed it with kicker so it would cure. Once it cured, I was able to lift the glue right off the parchment pa- per. It was about the thickness of a dime and maybe two-thirds the diameter of a dime. Be- fore you give up on mixing Hobby Town brand CA and parchment paper, you might try using a kicker to accelerate the cure on the glue. I know it’s frustrating working with dif-
ferent materials. Ten years ago I had no problems at all with waxed paper and CyA glues, but they’ve cut the wax coating down so thin that it’s impossible for me to use CyA over waxed paper today. I hope you find a procedure or technique, or a different brand of glue that works for you.
