International visitors to Brazil rose by 4% last year and with two major sport events coming up, domestic business is set to drive further growth. The country also looks likely to become a new boutique hotel hotspot with the introduction of a new classification to the Brazil Accommodation Rating System to coincide with a booming luxury goods sector, with increased sales of 33% in 2011.

Marcelo Pedroso, Director of International Markets for Embratur said: “We are seeing a growing appetite from international visitors for boutique hotels in Brazil. Recognising boutique hotels means Brazil is better equipped to offer guests more tailored choices and relevant information in the run up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Across the country 35 have already been included in the boutique category, each accommodating between three to 60 guests.
