Products Lift trucks New trucks offer high efficiency, performance and comfort

Jungheinrich has launched new additions to its ranges of IC-engine and electric-powered counterbalanced trucks. Both electric and engine trucks have been designed to offer the highest standards of energy efficiency, through- put performance and operator comfort.

The IC-engine model – the VFG Series 5s (above left) – is available in both diesel and LP Gas options. The trucks are powered by a Volkswagen engine and have a capacity of up to five tonnes. The VFG Series 5s features hydrostatic drive technology which compared with the traditional ‘torque converter’ type of transmission system used in counterbalanced trucks, has fewer mechanical components and, as a result, requires less routine maintenance. The hydrostatic drive technology ensures low exhaust emissions. The Jungheinrich VFG Series 5s’s emissions are the lowest in their class and well below the limit required by the new EU IIIB legislation due to come into effect from 2013 and will see the legal limit for exhaust soot particles reduced by 95 per cent. Independent tests have demonstrated that hydrostatic trucks consume two litres of diesel or 2kg of gas less per hour than torque converter driven alternative.

The engine speed automatically increases during the lift-

ing process and all mast functions, truck acceleration and braking and changes of direction are smooth and precise. “We believe that with its combination of low energy consumption and operating costs and ultra low exhaust emissions, the VFG Series 5s sets a new benchmark in ic- engine counterbalance truck design,” says Craig Johnson, marketing manager of Jungheinrich UK. Jungheinrich’s new electric counterbalanced truck – the EFG Series 4 (above right), has a load capacity of up to three tonnes. It is available with a choice of chassis lengths including a short version to reduce the truck’s turning circle. The EFG 425-430 models feature fourth generation Jungheinrich AC technology said to give trucks an excep- tional efficiency ratio and constantly low energy consump- tion. Tests show the new EFG Series 4 trucks are 10 per cent more energy efficienct than the models they replace. The low energy costs are further reduced through ener-

gy reclamation during braking, so a battery change in most applications over two shifts is no longer necessary. Fourth generation technology has productivity benefits. It enables trucks to accelerate quicker than less advanced

systems – enabling more loads to be moved per shift. The self guided SnapFit battery changing device, a mechanism fitted to a standard pallet truck that locks in to the underside of a 48 or 80 volt batter effortlessly, reduces the time it takes to secure and remove a battery when it is due for recharging. The new EFG Series 4 features a number of design ideas that allow the operator to adjust his working position to maximise comfort. The cab is spacious with an open and uncluttered floor area and, when it comes to forward visi- bility, the EFG Series 4’s mast is 50mm wider than the model it replaces while the truck’s overhead safety guard offers a virtually completely unobstructed view. Safety features have been introduced such as Jungheinrich’s ‘Curve Control’ which automatically reduces the truck’s drive speed as it enters a corner by monitoring the truck’s speed, wheel position and steering angle. At the heart of the Curve Control system is a continuously work- ing sensing unit that monitors the truck’s steering angle. Curve Control is said to offer market leading stability. Jungheinrich

Range of benefits offered by 24V rear wheel drive forklift truck

Hyster Europe has announced the launch of a compact 24V rear wheel drive forklift truck series that delivers a number of benefits including energy efficiency and a low cost of operation.

The new rear wheel drive A1.3XNT and A1.5XNT forklift trucks from Hyster are among the most compact 1,250kg and 1,500kg capacity forklift trucks in their class. With a width of only 996mm, they help to support block stacking where space is limited.

The three-wheel 24V forklift trucks have a tight turning circle said to be class-leading, allowing the 1,250kg model to oper- ate in aisle widths of just 3,053mm. The low noise level of 59dB(A) is said to reduce stress on the opera- tor while a low vibration seat offers comfort with levels from 0.3- 0.5m/s2. A low step and seat height provides easy on-off access and there is plenty of foot space and shoulder

Chain for heavy duty forklifts

FB Chain can now supply replacement chain for the range of 20-50 tonne capacity forklift trucks manufactured by heavy truck specialist Kalmar. The chain – which has a breaking load of up to 120 tonnes and weighs as much as 30kg per metre – is supplied cut to length and is available for next day delivery in the UK.

“When the chain is to be used on a forklift that is carrying up to 50 tonnes, safety becomes an even higher priority,” says Peter Church, MD of FB Chain. “To ensure the safety of our products we use high quality materials, press tooling and heat treatment tech- niques as well as corrosion resistant coatings and lubrication in the production process.” Kalmar supplies cargo handling equipment to ports, terminals and intermodal facili- ties. It also supplies a range of machines for applications as diverse as handling steel and paper to shunting road trailers at distribution hubs. Church says: “In the applications where Kalmar’s heavy duty trucks operate, downtime caused by the need to replace a dangerously worn chain can be extremely expensive. Our ability to offer next day delivery is therefore likely to appeal to lift truck dealers and truck operators alike.” FB Chain T: 01462 670844 fbchain.com Enter 358

room. A top speed of 12.0kmh (laden) is delivered by the single rear AC drive motor, while adjustable performance settings help to achieve the required ‘eBalance’ of energy and performance. The HiP setting provides maxi- mum productivity, while the eLo setting opti- mises the energy use and reduces cost even further, providing super low comparative forklift energy consumption. ‘Productivity’ truck introduced

Yale has introduced a, ‘Productivity‘ model of its VL Series electric counter- balance forklift truck said to be suitable for intensive applications with long runs and high lifts.

The company believes the VL

‘Productivity’ model is the most energy efficient, ergonomically advanced and productive electric counterbalance forklift series in the 2,200kg to 3,500kg capacity, combining the performance of an engine- powered forklift truck with zero emissions. Daniel Heap, electric truck senior prod- uct development manager, says: “When we carried out the exhaustive testing on the Yale ‘Productivity’ truck we wanted the test to be indicative of a heavy duty production cycle that was synonymous

with many of our customer’s production applications. The result was the Yale VL series ‘Productivity’ model was up to 22 per cent more productive than the com- petitive average and up to 15 per cent more productive than its nearest rival. “The ‘Productivity’ truck only uses 10 per cent more energy to outperform com- petitor’s products by up to 22 per cent.” Yale Materials Handling T: 01252 770 700 www.yale-forklifts.eu Enter 359
