SECTOR GUIDE | E-BIKES

3E Electric

THE RUGGED CITY Light Mk II is pitched as the ideal e-bike not only for those after electric assistance with their pedalling antics, but also with hire companies. The pedal assist range is up to 52-miles on one charge. If you’re riding throttle only, the range is up to 20 miles. Charging time is four to six hours and the battery has a whopping 2,000 charge cycles, says 3E. 3E Urban is

pitched at commuters and shoppers. Controls have been kept simple – for pedal assist, throttle only or both together – while a carrying rack takes care of laptop bags and Tesco carriers. The Sport is the ideal e-bike for adventurous cyclists, says 3E. With adjustable front suspension, Shimano Altus gears and disc brakes, the Sport is designed to perform on and off road. Powacycle

THE PRAGUE LPX e-bike has three modes of operation – assisted, normal cycling or motor powered. It makes use of an intelligent brushless motor in the rear hub, features Shimano six- speed gears and helpfully uses modular components for easy serviceability. Also up from Powacycle is the Riga LPX e-bike. Also using the three modes

of operation – assisted, normal cycling or motor power, like the Prague the Riga has an intelligent brushless motor in the rear hub, Shimano six-speed gears and those all-important modular components for easy serviceability. The motor is lightweight with greater than 80 per cent efficiency, the firm says. Interested dealers should contact

Powacycle through the medium of emails sales@powacycle or on the good old fashioned telephone on 01279 821243.

Hero Eco

HERO ECO is the company that bought the A2B and F4W brands and assets for Ultra Motor. Recently appearing on Sky One’s Gadget Geeks programme, the A2B Hybrid 24 prides itself on being a smooth and powerful pedelec, using RFID technology to turn the bike on and off. It has a clever digital controller that

interacts with the TMM4 torque sensor to deliver silky smooth performance (£1,999). The F4W Peak 36 has also graced our television screens (on Channel 4’s Home of the Future). The ruggedly handsome design is, Hero Eco says, comfortable enough to commute to the office but flexible enough to tackle light trails at the weekend. The all rounder benefits from the option of throttle or pedal assist (£1,249).

AVE

THE AVE E-BIKE range includes a large number of models, split into the TH, SH, XH, HM and CH series. In the XH line-up, the XH5 serves up what AVE calls serious off-road cycling. Also available as a Twentyniner, the XH 5 has a Bosch

centre drive, Avid Elixir 5 brakes and Shimano SLX 10g brakes. It is belt drive ready and features Rock Shox recon silver R Forks and Schwalbe Racing Ralph tyres. The TH5 single key lock also uses the Bosch centre drive, a Shimano Nexus seven-speed, while B & M LED Daytime lights are also included. www.ave-bikes.de

Fli

FLI DISTRIBUTION ADVISES that dealers should make their orders for KTM bikes sooner rather than later to ensure they don’t miss out on summer sales. Why so? Lots of Europe’s dealers made their orders at Eurobike, hence UK dealers playing catch up (Fli signed with KTM in January). KTM’s e-bikes cover 180mm

travel freeride MTBs, to 29er hardtails, though to shoppers and commuter bikes. Two of the most readily available are

the eFun (£1,799.99 RRP) and the eLycan (£3,149 RRP). The eFun sports Suntour forks, Shimano front hub, Bionx rear hub, Selle Royal Freeway saddle and B&M lights. The eLycan uses upgraded components and comes in a fetching white, orange and black decal. 0161 304 8555

Raleigh

AMONGST RALEIGH’S SIZABLE e-bike range is the Dover three-speed Shimano Nexus. Available in Xbar and low step frame types, the Dover 3 speed is a classic cruiser running on 700c wheels. It has a centre drive 250w motor from Panasonic and uses internal cables for a clean look. Raleigh also stocks the Vélo

Trail, an e-bike with MTB styling, meaning the bike will be as happy on forest tracks or bridleways as it will be on the daily commute. Running on 26- inch wheels, the Velo Trail is available in either a low-step frame for easy use, or Xbar for the more traditional MTB look. Lightweight alloy components help keep the weight down. It comes with an alloy luggage carrier incorporating the battery. 0800 0969060
