Weir Minerals has secured a two-year contract to supply and service three heavy-duty slurry pumps to Meichle und Mohr – a sand, gravel and concrete producer based in Immenstaad, southern Germany. The win is the first agreement secured

with a German business since the recent establishment of a new service centre in Essen, providing customers in Germany with a permanent servicing and supply base to

enhance service and after-sales support. The pump units – all from Weir Minerals’

Warman range – will drive wet processing and transportation of gravel. Mr. Hansbert Hellstern, technical plant manager at Meichle und Mohr said: “We selected Weir Minerals based on the proven track record Warman pumps have for product lifespan and ease of maintenance. “The launch of the new service centre in

Essen also gave us complete confidence in the availability of spare parts and maintenance support.” Marcus Hessling, service manager at Weir Minerals’ Essen service centre said: “We are continuing to expand our business rapidly in the aggregates production market within the region, and the recent opening of the permanent service base is playing a key role in this.”

Sweet success as Allen Steam Turbines completes contract

Commissioning trials were successfully completed in late 2011

following a contract award by Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation to Weir Power & Industrial’s Allen Steam Turbines business. A 30MWe steam turbine generating set

was supplied for their Simunye factory in 2010, part of an extension project to the existing sugar factory and designed with a controlled extraction for the factory’s process steam control.

The supply comprised a pass out condensing steam turbine manufactured by NG Metalúrgica of Brasil, parallel shaft gearbox manufactured by Lufkin of France, a salient pole type generator manufactured by Converteam of the UK, water cooled condenser manufactured by GEA of Spain and full control system by Solutions and Design of the UK.

Installation was supervised by Turbine Generator Services of Durban, Allen Steam Turbine’s agent for the area, supported by the Allen Steam Turbines team and Solutions and Design. The factory shutdown was due late November and the commissioning trials were completed with the machine entering into commercial service on 19 November, 2011.

Batley Valves order for Hitachi Zosen desalination plant

The strong relationship between Power & Industrial and Hitachi Zosen continued with an order for the UK valve facility to supply 28 butterfly valves for the expansion of the desalination plant for the Ruwais refinery operated by The Abu Dhabi Refining Company (Takreer). The metallised

double offset high performance valves are all Class 150, with sizes ranging from 250 to 900 mm. They will be used in the control of water and wastewater treatment processes on various applications including LP steam, brine, sea water, distillate and cooling water.

Major orders for Weir Gabbioneta

The second half of 2011 proved to be a highly successful one for Weir Gabbioneta as significant orders were awarded to the Oil & Gas division’s downstream business. Spanish, South Korean and Singaporean customers placed orders for process and utility pumps to be delivered in 2012. One contract, with Hyundai Heavy Industries,

Ulsan, Korea, involves pump units using both Gabbioneta and Begemann technology, illustrating the benefits and potential of the combined

product ranges and sales organisations since they were brought under the Weir Oil & Gas Division umbrella during 2011. To better support aftermarket activities aligned to this contract, a Weir Gabbioneta project engineer will relocate to Korea for to support the assignment. Due to the growing importance of Korea in the oil and gas EPC market, this is seen as a first step in the process of establishing a permanent sales and project engineering team in the country.
