The construction of the worlds largest pump station is progressing with GEHO® its heart.

Anglo Ferrous (previously MMX) is building the two pump stations for its 550 km long iron


ore concentrate pipeline in Brazil. In total, 18 GEHO®


piston diaphragm pumps will transport


the iron ore slurry from the mine site in Minas Gerais state to a processing plant on the coast.

They respond to many enquiries each week for off-the-shelf and build-to-order items that form part of the strategic resource at Elland aimed at satisfying outages, planned maintenance schedules and emergencies throughout the UK, Europe and further afi eld.

the team and fast response is critical. Although the team aims to turn enquiries round in 48 hours, 88% of enquiries received in 2011 were quoted within 24 hours and an impressive 55%

were turned around within one hour. The Lean manufacturing techniques deployed at Elland allow a valve to be assembled from stock components within two days. The team works with colleagues in production and supply chain to enable them to offer the shortest lead times possible. As a result, orders for stock valves increased by 38% in 2011 with further plans to support the products’ growth plans throughout 2012.


A paper presented by Jos Sloesen, Regional Manager, Weir Minerals Netherlands, was amongst ten awarded an honourable mention at one of the pipeline industry’s leading events, the Rio Pipeline Conference and Exhibition. Attended by 150 exhibiting companies, 1,300 delegates from 27 countries and nearly 2,000 visitors the conference attracts delegates from all areas of the pipeline industry, including major customers for slurry and tailings pipelines, such as PSI, Brass, Paragominas, Samarco, MMX, Anglo Ferrous and Vale. The paper, on ‘Increased capacity with world-class piston diaphragm pumping technology’ was picked out from 343 outstanding technical papers from 27 countries.
