INDUSTR Y N EWS TSA Validates SightLogix 100% Accuracy at Buffalo Airport

An evaluation by the TSA has confirmed 100% video analytics accuracy of the SightLogix SightSensor thermal camera system in the challenging environment typical of many airports. According to the TSA’s final report, the “evaluation team performed over 900 scenarios of which every alarm instance was accurately reported” on the SightLogix perimeter security system. Buffalo airport officials

also report cost

savings with the SightLogix video analytics solution compared to competing technologies based upon SightLogix’ longer range coverage, reducing the number of poles, trenching and communications. The use of Thermal SightSensors enables detection of intrusions even in complete darkness,

removing the additional costs otherwise needed for illumination. Additionally, the TSA reports that “SightSensor target tracking capabilities were available and 100% functional throughout the evaluation period.” Integrating the SightSensors into the existing video management system was “smooth and without issue,” the TSA reports. During the week of 7th-11th March 2011, TSA evaluators conducted 900 test scenarios to challenge the SightLogix system throughout several regions of the Buffalo Airport protected by Thermal SightSensors. The TSA report states that “each alarm prompted the system to display the alarm video, location information, nearest camera reference numbers, date and time, and an audible alarm signal.”

Adaptive Recognition Hungary Launches New ID Scanners

ARH Inc. has announced that its new Combo Reader Series are available for sale.

The two new scanners, named as Combo Scan and Combo Smart will set a standard for compact size, speed, stylish design and unique functionality. The Combo Scan captures the entire ID card size (ID-1) plus the machine readable zone (MRZ) area from passports, while the Combo Smart captures the entire passport page. Both devices facilitate automatic image capturing under various illuminations, read the textual data, recognise 2D barcodes and perform authentication checks – all in less than two seconds. The new Combo Readers offer unique functions like Optical Variable Devices (OVD) visualisation and Reflection Removal (RR) technology. The new Combo Readers are able to visualise the OVDs and also completely remove them as well as any other reflective sign from the taken images. Other optional features like colour UV imaging, contact and contactless (RFID) chip reading and magstripe processing will also be available for Combo Smart users.

The SightLogix system included Thermal SightSensor video analytics cameras for detecting and tracking intrusions over large areas and SightTracker PTZ controllers to automatically steer Pelco cameras to zoom and follow detected targets. Fixed Thermal SightSensors were installed to protect critical regions of the perimeter and to provide automated monitoring to detect people or vehicles moving from the public side toward the runway. Cameras were positioned to provide additional surveillance across multiple access gates and portions of the perimeter that are adjacent to public roadways. Video and alarm data was networked to a central monitoring station via fibre-optic cable.

IndigoVision Improves Safety, Security and Speed on Santiago Metro

Passengers on the Santiago Metro system can travel more safely due to a new security monitoring system from IndigoVision. More than two million passengers a day travel on the Santiago metro, the backbone of the Chilean capital’s public transport system.

Metro

system management was keen to ensure the security of passengers, and worked with IndigoVision partner Diebold Bitelco Chile to find the ideal solution.

The new system has helped Santiago Metro to improve response to incidents, and security monitoring has been enhanced. Security personnel have been able to track individuals responsible for crime and apprehend them. The movement of passengers can also be analysed, for safety and speed of transit. Felipe Bravo Busta, Technology Sub Project Manager on the Metro system stated: “IndigoVision’s solution has made for a safer Metro system in all senses – lower crime and less risk of accidents due to overcrowding.” The system now covers 48 stations. All existing cameras were able

to be reused by connecting them to the network via IndigoVision 9000 video encoders. There are 415 fixed and 406 PTZ cameras across the Metro network.

Lockheed Martin Awarded Two TSA Contracts

Lockheed Martin will help the TSA integrate and deploy advanced imagining technology (AIT) scanning equipment in airports in the eastern and central portions of the U.S. The two task awards from TSA total $72 million. The task orders were awarded under TSA’s Security Equipment Systems Integration

(SESI) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity vehicle and include one base-year plus one option-year.

Under the orders, Lockheed Martin said it will help TSA deploy passenger screening technologies including AIT equipment and software upgrades. The

work will involve a complex integration of electrical systems, wireless technologies and existing airport infrastructure. Lockheed Martin will perform installations

at approximately 300 airports across the two regions. Work has already begun at airports in the eastern United States.

Albanian Electronic Document Production Site Achieves ISO 27001 Certification

Morpho (Safran Group) has announced that it has achieved the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 27001 certification for its identity management, identity card and passport personalisation site in Tirana, Albania. This certification confirms that the infrastructure and processes implemented by Morpho’s information security management systems meet the industry’s most stringent security standards.

Morpho set up this concession in 2008 to provide the Albanian Ministry of the Interior with a complete, end-to-end secure e-ID card and e-Passport issuance solution, based on its cutting-edge MorphoCivis™ Suite, composed of biometric identity management and e-Document issuance products.

The ISO 27001 certification was awarded to Morpho following a rigorous auditing process by LSTI (La Sécurité des Technologies

de L’Information) and covers the entire document personalisation process: data verification, identity de-duplication, investigation and document personalisation.
