AFS Submits White Paper on Rare Earth Elements to Congress

My sponsored webinar

with Metal Casting Design & Purchasing exceeded all my expectations. I consider this program to be the single best lead generation investment I’ve made in the last 10 years.

David Weiss Vice President, Sales & Engineering Eck Industries Inc.

In December 2011, the American Foundry Society

submitted a white paper to the inaugural U.S. Congres- sional Rare Earth Caucus on the use of rare earth elements by the metalcasting industry and its customers. At the caucus, the U.S. Magnetic Materials Associa-

tion, a trade association representing high performance magnet producers and suppliers, also briefed members of Congress on rare earths. T e briefi ng, “Rare Earths: State of the Industry,” focused on eff orts to rebuild a domestic and allied nation rare earth supply chain and develop ad- ditional supplies of the critical materials. It also included a discussion on current bills pending before Congress, eff orts by the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a rare earth inventory, and the association’s six-point plan to address the rare earth supply crisis. T is was the fi rst meeting of the Rare Earth Caucus,

formed by Congressman Mike Coff man, R-Colo. Coff man formed the caucus in an eff ort to promote and reestablish the domestic supply chain for rare Earth elements.

CMI Reaches Out Via Social Media

CMI students in British Columbia take a class on nobake and coldbox molding. T e Cast Metals Institute is expanding its social media

presence by off ering free class registration to its Safety in the Foundry Seminar to one winner who will be picked from discussion replies posted to the AFS Facebook page. In the discussion, CMI asks AFS social media fans to

comment on the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Ad- ministration’s Global Harmonized Standard. Help CMI get the discussion going by visiting the AFS
