INDUSTRY NEWS Aerocast Wins Two Hamilton Sundstrand Contracts


Aerocast Inc., Mesa, Ariz., an- nounced it has been awarded two aluminum casting programs for parts to be used on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner accessory gearbox. Te gearbox, provided by Hamilton Sundstrand, is part of the Rolls Royce


Trent 1000 engine assembly. Aerocast will produce the components at its sand casting facility, where it maintains aluminum and magnesium capabilities. Te Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the world’s first jet airliner built using


composite materials for most of its construction. It is expected to save approximately 20% on fuel costs. Fifty-seven customers have ordered a total of 866 Boeing 787 Dreamliners since the program was launched in 2004. Boeing estimates it will build about 3,310 of the aircraft through 2028. Hamilton Sundstrand manufac-


tures aerospace systems for com- mercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft, and it is a major supplier for international space programs. Additional Aerocast customers include Honeywell Aerospace, Sikorsky Aircraft and Shimadzu Precision Instruments. Aerocast said in a press release it is experiencing high demand for its products.


Suzuki to Install New Casting Capacity in Indonesia

iary PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor, Jakarta, Indonesia, has acquired a 1.3 million-sq.-m site for a new manufacturing campus that will include metalcasting capability. According to a company press


release, the new facilities will be used to meet Indonesia’s grow- ing demand for automobiles and motorcycles. Te statement said the move is aimed at increasing the local content in the motor vehicles produced in the country. Te facilities are expected to include an engine manufacturing plant and facilities for forging, sand casting and diecasting. Suzuki currently has two plants


in Indonesia with a combined production capability of 1 million motorcycles and 80,000 automo- biles per year. With the acquisition of the new site, Suzuki expects to consolidate the plants and enhance future production capability.
