news to use NORTH AMERICA Alberta on target

BY JULIE BAXTER Travel Alberta is set to raise its

profile in the UK with targeted consumer campaigns and a series of trade marketing initiatives designed to highlight authentic experiences on offer in its western Canada province. The province will be winning headlines this July with the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede, and also thanks to Calgary’s 2012 designation as Canada’s Cultural Capital, which brings with it £1.2 million in council funding for the city’s thriving arts scene. Amanda Newby de Saulles, market

development director for Travel Alberta in the UK, said: “The travel trade remains the focal point of all our activity to show target markets the proposition that a trip to Alberta can be year-round.” A consumer TV advertising campaign will run, in partnership with Canadian Affair, and further joint-marketing activities will include initiatives with Virgin to

support new Vancouver flights, Trailfinders and North American Travel Service. New products and programmes include Alberta-only summer touring packages from Exodus plus a new Canada programme from US Airtours which features Calgary, Banff and Jasper as well as the Rocky Mountaineer. Newmarket Holidays (www.newmarketholidays. co.uk) has added a new package highlighting Northern Lights opportunities in Alberta’s north. Prices start from £1,299 pp for a nine-day adventure. www.travelalberta.com
