BY STEVEN THOMPSON Cambodia, and in particular Sihanoukville and the southern beaches, will develop more over the next few months, thanks mainly to the start of a new thrice weekly Siem Reap- Sihanoukville route with Cambodia Angkor Air, and the new direct flights from Gatwick to Vietnam with Vietnam Airlines. The new routes will allow travellers
to sample the world-famous Angkor Wat and the beautiful southern beaches, a complete cultural and relaxing holiday, without the need to leave Cambodia. “Tourists historically would see the wonderful Angkor Wat and then leave for the beaches of Thailand, however now with Vietnam Airlines flying direct with add-ons to Cambodia, it means the beach stays within Cambodia are so much more accessible and relatively untouched by tourism as well, which adds to the appeal” says Nikki Hain, Product Manager at Premier Holidays.

If your clients are looking for something a bit different from Bali, then Manado could be for them. The destination will attract visitors looking for something less developed as well as those seeking the area’s fantastic diving. Manado, and North Sulawesi in general, is relatively unspoilt by tourism as it is not easy to get to for international visitors. The only way to get there is via Bali or Jakarta on Lion Air and Garuda, or Singapore with Silk Air. There are a number of decent hotels catering for all budgets such as Hotel Aryaduta, the Kima Bajo and the Novotel. Food and drink can be cheap with a rice-based dish and local beer in a decent restaurant costing around £5.00! A one-hour taxi ride can also be as little as £5.
massive boost by Yahoo Travel, as one of the top ten islands to visit before you die. Among the island attractions were “its unique fusion of cultures and flavours, local architecture, beach resorts, mangroves, small fishing villages and a share of temple, mosques and churches.” Kerry Towers, Product&Purchasing Manager for Travel2 says that because of the diverse mix of historical yet modern, this makes it a very popular choice for UK visitors. “At the moment they also have some really great properties for all budgets such as the Shangri-La that are great value-for-money and appeal to families and honeymoon couples alike.”
