SOLAR DECATHLON V
Y-Container09
TEAM CHINA TONGJI
China’s debut brings global innovation to Decathlon V with acrobatic room dividers and phase-change sunlights.

Team China’s Y-Container might have just as easily been called Transformer House, because the six shipping containers holding all the team’s parts and materials morphed into a high-performance house in less than three days.

Six shipping containers in three groups create Y-Container’s shell. At the intersection of the containers is a “phase-change” skylight. Sections of the skylight open automatically to vent the house as needed. Pivoting walls reconfigure space quickly.

TEAM: The team was made up of architecture and engineering students from Tongji University in Shanghai. Team Web site: http://solardecathlon.tongji.edu.cn/
