SOLAR DECATHLON V
Empowerhouse08
PARSONS THE NEW SCHOOL FOR DESIGN, MILANO AND STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Winner of the new affordability category, this project remained in Washington after the Decathlon—as a Habitat for Humanity home.

“Parsons NS Stevens truly exemplified a can-do attitude. The house is based on the affordability needs of the team’s target market in an urban context: low initial costs, low maintenance costs and low utility costs,” says affordability juror Matt Hansen.

Built for competition but as a real house with a real family in mind, Empowerhouse won Decathlon V’s affordability category. When installed on site, the home will be certified passive.
