SeedS & PlantS ONION SEED CULTURE
As soon as the soil can be worked, sow directly into the garden. Sow thinly ¼" deep, in rows 12" apart. May be started indoors 8 weeks before last hard frost. Allow ten days for germination. When the plants are 1/8" diameter they are ready for transplanting into the garden, space plants 4" apart. One packet contains approximately 250 seeds; however, started indoors a packet will yield transplants for 50'.
ONION SEEDS/PLANTS
Plants are quicker to produce than seeds or sets, with scallions ready for the table in 3-4 weeks, mature bulbs in 4 months. One bunch con- tains 50-75 plants, depending on plant size, and plants about a 20' row. Plants are field-grown, hardy and guaranteed to arrive safely. After arrival, plant immediately in loose well-drained soil. Onions should be fertilized a couple times during the summer as the small root system has a hard time taking up enough nutrients. It is also important to keep the weeds out of onions because they don’t compete well for nutrients and water. Water onions an inch a week especially when they start to ‘bulb up’ in the late summer. A packet of seed contains 250 seeds. No plants can be sent to CA, ID, WA, AK & HI.
