FOR BETTER HEALTHQ KOHLRABI - Should Be in Every Garden.


A member of the cabbage family. Prefers cool weather. Does best in a rich, well- drained loam. For an early crop, sow seed 1 in. apart, 1/2 in. deep, as soon as the soil can be worked. Cultivate the same as cabbage. Sow again in mid-summer for a fall crop, in rows about 18 in. apart. Later thin plants to 5 in. apart in rows. Harvest when the bottom of the bulb reaches 2 to 3 in. in diameter. Prepare for the table in the same way as turnips. Allow 2 weeks for germination. A packet sows 40 ft. of row; 1 oz. sows about 300 ft.

The edible part of kohlrabi is a large bulb grown on a stem just above the ground. When the bulb is young, no more than 2-1/2 in. across, the flesh has a sweet, mild, turnip-like flavor. It is a delicious vegetable, highly prized by many who appreciate the sweet, fine- grained flesh.

KALE - Sow in Spring & Midsummer. Culture.
