Dear Gardening Partner:
Winter/Spring 2012
One of the many things that gardeners have in common is that we all love to talk about the weather. Is that cold snap coming tonight? Will we get enough rain? The possibilities are endless, but they’re all about one thing – we want to protect our gardens and nurture them to their fullest potential.
At R.H. Shumway’s, we understand the importance of protecting your expectations. That’s why we never take shortcuts – our seeds are carefully selected for optimum performance, and our plants and bulbs are also of the highest quality. And while we can’t control the growing conditions, we can promise that when your order ships, it won’t be compromised in any way.
Whether you’re choosing tried-and-true classics or some of our terrific new varieties, we are sure to have something for you like the picture-perfect Hijinks Pumpkin (right), a 2011 AAS Winner… and prolific Sugar Pearl Corn (pg. 3). Or grow the ingredients for a sunset- colored salad with Magic Mountain Tomato (Front Cover), and Orange Blaze Pepper (right) – another deserving AAS standout!

Then plan ahead for those big yields with a book you’ll keep on the kitchen counter month after month – our new “Put ‘em Up” handbook of tips for preserving, canning and freezing vegetables (pg. 3). It includes 175 recipes that you can use to enjoy your harvests long after the growing season is over.
So while the fickle weather may change on a dime, you can count on us to be steadfast in giving your garden the best possible start. We promised that many years ago, and it still holds true today.
Best wishes for your best garden ever, 02716
