GIDDY UP COWBOY Hidden away by trees and tall grasses, there is a quiet getaway

in San Diego’s back country that is best explored on horseback. You can rent one of scores of available horses for a two-hour tour down 52,000 acres of scenic trails. Children, ages seven and up, and new riders have their choice of well-trained horses and ex- perienced tour guides that ensure safety and comfort. More pol- ished riders can gallop through thousands of miles of sun-drenched meadows, choosing their preference of English or Western style rid- ing. Bright Valley Farms is located near Sweetwater River Valley, where cool breezes blowing in from the water and sunny spring weather make for cozy riding conditions. RIDE THE RAILS Skateboarding, aka sidewalk surfing was introduced in Califor-

nia by surfers in the early ‘50s, and has since exploded into a pop- ular sport enjoyed by millions worldwide. Gone are the days of uti- lizing empty swimming pools to master dangerous tricks at great speeds. Today’s skateboarders have dozens of skate parks to choose from, thanks in part to the legitimization of the sport by ESPN’s X Games. Of San Diego’s 37 skate parks, five have earned high ac- claim among the hundreds in Southern California: Clairemont, Pala and YMCA Magdalena Ecke are in the top 10, and SD Washington Street and Poway are in the top 20. Find a complete list of locations at www.sdskateparks.com. Grab a board and enjoy some sidewalk surfing!
