Del Mar is Spanish for “by the sea”, and this upscale city is con- sidered quite prestigious. The town was founded in 1800, has inspired songs by the Beach Boys and Bing Crosby, and has attracted an assortment of A-list celebrities over the years. A six-mile coastal beach city located in the north coun- ty of San Diego, Encinitas is 19.4 square miles and is characterized by coastal beaches, cliffs, flat-topped coastal areas, steep mesa bluffs and rolling hills. The city was incorporated on October 1, 1986, drawing together the communities of New Encinitas, Old Encinitas, Cardiff-by- the-Sea, Olivenhain and Leucadia. Encinitas is a laid back community with outstanding beaches and


surfing. Downtown 101 is a coastal shopping district over 100 years old featuring historic architecture, quaint shops, sidewalk cafes, and restaurants framed by beautiful flower baskets. If you ever spend a day in Encinitas, be sure to wear comfortable shoes because the “Thing To Do” is walk around and explore the city.
