Installed and bound to the DX7s (above left), the TM 1000 telemetry module is hooked up to the Data port of the receiver in the Icon A5.

Mechanically the transmitter is set up

nicely, comfortable to hold, and the switch- es are easily accessed, partly because the top side and front aren’t a forest of switches, buttons and knobs. For those who like to ad- just stick tension whatever way is preferred, the method is easy: the rubber grips on ei- ther side of the back are a press fit and can be removed to access the holes marked with

Telemetry (above right) is viewed on the Tx by rolling the selector from the home screen. Screens won’t show unless module and Tx are both on.

the horizontal and vertical arrows where a small Phillips head screwdriver can be used to make the adjustment. There’s more to tell about the radio but

the appropriate end to this article is men- tion of the telemetry option built into it. The hookup is simple. The TM 1000 module, the brains of the onboard telemetry, connects to an appropriate DSM2 or DSMX receiver

The Telemetry Option

through the receiver’s Data/Bind port. The module binds both module and receiver. To access the telemetry, once bound, the

rolling selector rolls through progressive screens from the home screen. It then shows the information available from the sensors hooked into the TM 1000 module. The DX7s may not be loaded with features but it is a good, pretty capable radio.

Here are some of the telemetry options (above left) for DSMX or DSM2 receivers. Shown are the TM 1000 module in the center, the altimeter, brushless RPM sensor, the flight pack voltage sensor, altitude sensor, and the airspeed sensor. The orange box (above right) is at the bottom of the TM 1000 clear packaging. It contains some important hardware like the connector cable

to the receiver, a Y harness with small JST connectors, a temperature sensor lead, and the convenient stylus used for binding. Altogether there are four JST connector ports (below left) on the TM 1000. A typical hookup of the telemetry gear (below right). Note the stylus, next to the small pushbutton switch for binding. The TM 1000 interfaces with the receiver through the Bind/Data port.
