get around if you live in one of these isolated communities? The answer is the mail boat, which in one form or another has been operating since 1866 when the steamer Mary Moody ran from Pen d’Oreille City northwards to Granite. in this end of the state, like Lake Coeur d’Alene, Priest Lake, or Flathead Lake in northeastern Montana. All are great places for the traveling sailor to put in and enjoy time on the water, but to my eyes, for overall beauty and raw challenge, Lake Pend Oreille tops the list.
