10 NOVEMBER: BASRA, IRAQ Two rockets that were allegedly intended to be fired at Basra International Airport were defused. They were discovered in a house in the Zobeir district after six other rockets had been fired from that place earlier the same day.


25 NOVEMBER: PARIS More than $400,000 worth of Louis Vuitton merchandise was stolen from a store at Paris' Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport.


27 NOVEMBER: ATYRAU, KAZAKHSTAN An Air Astana flight to Amsterdam was delayed when an explosive device was allegedly found in luggage and then defused in one of the airport toilets.

13 SEPTEMBER: UBERLANDIA, BRAZIL A Gol Linhas Aereas flight en route from Porto Alegre to Brasilia diverted to Uberlandia as the crew suspected there was a stowaway in the cargo compartment. Nobody was found.


22 SEPTEMBER: LONDON


An alleged incident involving a Nigerian asylum seeker and her deportation escorts on an Alitalia flight set to depart for Rome resulted in a police investigation. Faith, 39, claims that six of the eight escorts on the flight beat her on the arms and legs, twisted her hand and put hands around her neck. She said she was left spitting blood. She was being deported, along with her three children, and says she panicked while strapped into her seat. The Captain instructed that the family be removed from the aircraft.


22 SEPTEMBER: BARNAUL, RUSSIA An Aeroflot plane is reported to have almost crashed while landing at Barnaul when a 15-year-old boy directed a laser pointer at the cockpit. The boy’s parents were later ordered to pay a US$6.60 fine (200 roubles).


26 SEPTEMEBER: EL PASO Leisha Hailey, star of “The L Word” (pictured right) was removed from a Southwest Airlines flight. According to Southwest it was for swearing at cabin crew. However, Hailey claims it was because she had been kissing her girlfriend Camila Grey. It would seem that crew interrupted the couple’s amorous behaviour as a result of complaints from other passengers and that the subsequent row lead to their being asked to disembark.

27 SEPTEMBER: PRAGUE Reports emerge that a journalist from the Aktualne news server got himself hired as an airport guard and then smuggled banned items into the airport’s cargo complex.


29 SEPTEMBER: NEW YORK Lori Dorn, who had undergone a bilateral mastectomy in April and had tissue expanders put in place to prepare for reconstructive surgery, was set aside for a pat down search as she went through security for her Virgin America flight to San Francisco. Dorn objected and said she had a card in her wallet (see pic) that explained the type of expanders, the serial numbers and her doctor’s information. However, she was not allowed to access her bag and the TSA insisted on the search proceeding. The TSA apologised to Dorn publically on 3 October.


26 SEPTEMBER: RURRENABAQUE, BOLIVIA Hundreds of local residents used barricades to block a landing strip in the Amazon town of Rurrenabaque to stop police from flying protestors they had arrested during a protest march (against a new highways’ construction) out of the area. The police later freed those they had arrested.


5 OCTOBER: INDIANAPOLIS


A Saudi Arabian passenger caused concern on an American Airlines flight from New York to Indianapolis when he tried to get into the cockpit. However the man seemed confused and willingly returned to his seat.


14 OCTOBER: EXETER, UK


A Thomson flight arriving at Exeter Airport from Corfu was the subject of a laser cockpit illumination.


14 OCTOBER: NEWQUAY, UK A Flybe flight arriving at Newquay Cornwall Airport from London Gatwick was the subject of a laser cockpit illumination.


15 OCTOBER: INDONESIA Sainuddin, 28, who had scaled the perimeter fence of Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin airport was killed when he was struck in the face by the propeller of a departing Cessna aircraft on runway 13.


15 OCTOBER: SALT LAKE CITY


Inert landmines were found in a passenger’s checked luggage at Salt Lake City International Airport.


19 OCTOBER: MANILA


A suitcase was found to contain bomb components during screening for a flight to Bacolod City. It is understood they were unlicensed training aids.


20 OCTOBER: MUMBAI


Kevin Couto, a TV producer, was running so late for his Air India flight to Delhi that he simply parked his Ford Fiesta car in front of the terminal building, rushed in and


boarded his flight. The unattended vehicle caused alarm and was eventually broken into by the bomb squad.
