Zetron’s Acom at Heart of Oslo Operations Centre
Zetron’s Acom Advanced Communications System, a mission-critical touch-screen system, has been deployed at Oslo’s Gardemoen Airport. The system enables just three operators to handle many of the radio and telephone calls between the 13,000 people and 100 companies that together keep the airport open for business - even during the worst Scandinavian winters. At Gardermoen the Acom system brings 27 TETRA, VHF and UHF radio channels and 60 PABX lines onto single screens, making it easy for operators to coordinate key elements of ground operations from power and other support systems to security, fire and rescue. Acom displays enable operators to swiftly make the right decisions, get the right teams and people talking, and keep the airport functioning efficiently. Gardermoen control centre project leader Alf-Einar Larsen says: “The graphical user interface is one of the many strengths of the Zetron system. It means that each member of staff can logon and have information presented to them just the way they want it. The combined Zetron and TC Connect team has delivered a highly capable solution that will enable us to maintain and build upon our reputation for quality service to airlines and travellers even as we set out on our latest expansion programme.”
Nuctech Products Awarded Civil Aviation Inspection Equipment License
Nuctech’s X-ray Inspection Systems CX6040BH, CX6550BH and CX100100TH have recently been tested by the Centre of Aviation Safety Technology of the Civil Aviation Administration of China and recognised by the CAAC to have met the relevant requirements of “Internal Control Standards for Civil Aviation X-ray Baggage Inspection Systems” and have been awarded the civil aviation inspection equipment licenses. This is the second time for Nuctech to get licenses for three of its products at the same time since May 2010 when another three products of Nuctech were successfully awarded licenses. This has not only increased the number of product categories accessing the high-end market of civil aviation but also widened the path for the sale of Nuctech’s products in China and in the international civil aviation market.

Morpho to Provide SmartGate for Australian Customs and Border Protection
Morpho (Safran Group) has announced that it has signed a five year agreement with the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service to maintain their automated border clearance system, known as “SmartGate”. SmartGate carries out biometric identification of eligible ePassport holders. Travellers are identified in real-time using facial recognition technology, and that image is then compared to the digital image stored in the chip of their electronic passport. “Moving to the new services model is part of Customs and Border Protection’s long term plan and strategy for the delivery of cost effective and highly secure border processing. The maintenance and enhancement of proven services such as SmartGate, provide Customs and Border Protection with necessary capability and capacity to cope with growing passenger numbers through Australian airports and to streamline the travel of legitimate passengers” said Robyn Miller, National Manager – Business Capability Branch from Australian Customs and Border Protection Service.

G4S to Provide Aviation Security Services to Virgin Atlantic
G4S Transport & Borders, part of G4S Secure Solutions (UK), has been appointed to provide aviation security services to Virgin Atlantic at all four UK airports from which they operate. The company will provide a range of specialised security services including check-in and profile monitoring of passengers, aircraft guarding, access control, and aircraft searches at Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow, and Manchester. The three year contract, which commenced in November, will see G4S help streamline Virgin Atlantic security processes, providing a faster and more efficient service for around five million passengers a year.
G4S will also operate security for the
airline’s Heathrow drive-through operations, for passengers travelling in Virgin Upper Class. The contract was awarded by Virgin Atlantic following an existing eight year partnership with G4S at three of the airline’s sites in the UK. Andy Blackwell, Head of Security and Resilience at Virgin Atlantic, said: “Safety and security are of paramount importance to Virgin Atlantic. G4S are an integral part of our protective security arrangements and we are delighted to be continuing to work with them to ensure the integrity of aviation security.”
Smiths Detection’s aTiX Scanner Gains Key EU Approval
The 7555aTiX is now the only multi-purpose, multi-threat detection system for aviation security applications, which is officially EU standard approved and can be used either for liquids detection or bulk explosives screening. This EDS Standard 2 approval for the 7555aTiX adds to the previously received liquid detection approval, in which Smiths Detection’s aTiX product line achieved the EU’s most stringent screening (LEDS Type C Standard 2) requirements.
The compact HI-SCAN 7555aTiX is ideal for use at aviation security checkpoints and for checked baggage EDS screening in low bag volume airports. The system joins Smiths Detection’s HI-SCAN 10080 EDX-2is and HI-SCAN 10080 EDtS on the list of hold baggage screeners to have achieved EDS Standard 2 under the CEP.
