Security Checkpoint Wait Times Posted at Lyon-Saint Exupéry

Expected wait times at the security checkpoints are now available to passengers in real time at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport. At the entrance to the security checkpoints, a screen on the public side of the concourse indicates the estimated wait times, from the end of the queue to the security gates. This system increases passenger awareness, enabling them to better manage their time at the airport. The system selected to calculate and display the wait times at the security checkpoints uses several cameras that count the number of passengers in the queue, including those going through the security gates. Using this data, an algorithm determines the wait time for accessing the departure lounges. The result is then displayed in real time at the entrance to the security checkpoints.

Ghana Airports Invest $15 Million in SITA

Ghana is to benefit from new integrated airport systems from airport IT specialist, SITA, designed to improve passenger flow and baggage management at the country’s main airport, Kotoka International Airport. The new systems were commissioned today by Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister for Transport. The ten-year, $15 million implementation by SITA for the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) includes technology upgrades such as the introduction of a new baggage reconciliation system, the latest common-use self-service (CUSS) check-in kiosks, and SITA’s suite of airport management solutions integrated with a new airport operational data base and flight information display system which ensures passengers get a real-time view on flight changes. The SITA Baggage Reconciliation System will provide Kotoka’s 800,000 passengers with a state-of-the-art facility capable of tracking over two million bags from check-in to delivery while ensuring that the right bag is on the right plane for the right passenger. Doreen Owusu-Fianko, GACL Managing Director, said, “The Ghana Airports Company is keen to ensure that all passengers checking in at Kotoka International Airport have a smooth and pleasant passage through the airport with a minimum of queues and delays. SITA’s airport management solution will anchor systems integration across the airport and self-service check-in is something that passengers now expect as much as online booking.

“Passengers also place a high value on their baggage arriving safely.

SITA’s Baggage Reconciliation System now provides us with maximum visibility on baggage movements from check-in to loading. This will also enhance airport and flight security while assuring passengers that we have infrastructure in place that they can rely on.”

Lyngsoe Systems Helps Copenhagen Airport

In order to better handle the large volumes of baggage from passengers on cruise ships, Copenhagen Airports (CPH) has decided to automate the baggage sorting system and house it in an existing hangar. The new stand-alone baggage sorting system in the renovated hangar

was brought into use during the very busy summer period in 2011. In order to secure an efficient process and convivial work environment, a system with 100% automatic identification was identified as the most appropriate. Traditional printed barcode labels do not provide a sufficiently high read rate to support a completely automatic process or make for an ideal work environment so an RFID-based solution was chosen. Lyngsoe Systems has developed and integrated RFID on Baggage in Hong Kong International Airport (2005), Milan Malpensa Airport (2007), Lisbon Airport (2008) and Aalborg Airport (2010).
