A LIGHT DUSTING OF SNOW surrounds Saratoga & North Creek BL2 No. 52 at Saratoga Springs, New York on October 30, 2011 (above). The S&NC has designed their schedule to connect with Amtrak trains at Saratoga Springs. Arizona Eastern E8 6070 teams up with S&NC 52 to lead the morning northbound train past the 1000 Acres Golf Course en route to North Creek, New York, on October 30, 2011 (opposite). A smattering of fall foliage remained in the Adirondacks at this late date.

We followed all the way to North Creek, and we were re- warded with unobstructed views of the BL2 facing south into the sun once the runaround was completed. Some folks don’t


care for the “homely” BL2, but you couldn’t convince me it wasn’t worth our time. We would have stayed for the afternoon depar- ture if we didn’t have other commitments. Reluctantly, we pointed the car south and headed for home, both vowing to return when the second BL2 arrives in 2012. — OTTO M. VONDRAK
