our annual New England circle trip. We tossed some dates around and finally settled on the last weekend of October. We had planned to hit up an ethanol train travers- ing the "Green Mountain Gateway," as well as catch some D&H mainline action, and possibly some Pan Am Railway if we were lucky. I tossed in the Saratoga & North Creek as a possibility after Chris mentioned seeing it written up in a recent issue of Railpace. We spent parts of Friday and Saturday

sunny weather was making quick work of clearing it away. We met the morning S&NC train at Saratoga Springs and observed the runaround. Brilliant sunshine made the classic diesels really stand out from the late fall scene, the Arizona Eastern E8 wearing Espee “Black Widow” paint while the BL2 wore its new coat of blue and gray quite well. With the recent Railpace article as our guide, we decided to head north to start scop- ing out potential photo locations. It was relatively easy to stay ahead of the

train and make each photo location. The E8 and BL2 combination certainly made for an
