3s photonics announces 64 per cent turnover increase in 2011
French fi rm 3S Photonics has announced a fi scal year 2011 consolidated turnover of €51 million, 64 per cent greater than 2010. The increase was driven
by sales in the terrestrial and submarine long distance transmissions markets. 3S’ long distance transmission market share now stands at 10 per cent against seven per cent in 2010. 3S also said that the revenue growth was aided by ‘positive business developments’ in its Korean and Canadian subsidiaries. ‘The excellent results of our 2011 fi scal year demonstrate the success
of our consolidation and diversifi cation strategy, especially on the terrestrial long distance market,’ said 3S Photonic’s president and chief executive offi cer Alexandre Krivine. In its results statement the
company also said its fi nancial position strengthened, because its ‘operating expenses remained stable compared to 2010’. Krivine expects 2012 to be equally successful, because of the company’s ‘new investments and a diversifi cation of its activities’ beyond the telecommunications market. 3S also operates in the laser and sensors markets.

Jenoptik upgrades earnings performance expectations for 2011
Jenoptik is predicting that its earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) for 2011 will be €44 million, a 52 per cent increase over the 2010 results of €29 million. The prediction of increased earnings stems from an upbeat sales estimate of €525 million for 2011, €15 million more than an earlier fi gure from the company of €510 million. The company had previously predicted in March an EBIT for 2011 of more than €35 million and then increased that to €40 million in May.
The upgraded forecast,
according to Jenoptik, is due to a high demand for lasers and optical systems from the semiconductor market sector, and more orders for metrology equipment from the car industry. In its announcement, Jenoptik said: ‘With this result, management expects to post the best fi scal year on the earnings side in the recent history of Jenoptik. The forecast has been increased as a result of very good order and earnings developments in the fi rst ten months of 2011.’ Jenoptik expects the fourth quarter to see this positive trend continue.
