The exhibition at SPIE Photonics West, which takes place from 21-26 January, offers an opportunity to view the latest innovations with more than 1,150 companies and new products on offer. Here’s a preview of what to expect

Aerotech manufactures automated alignment, positioning and motion control systems and components for 24/7 manufacturing. Aerotech will be exhibiting and demonstrating a variety of new products. These will include the Nmark CLS/AGV galvo controller and scanner combination that provides direct control of galvo scanner servo motion for marking parts of unlimited size and complexity. Aerotech also has the MotionPAC integrated PLC and advanced motion controller that reduces programming and commissioning time from 30 per cent to 50 per cent; and the Sensor Fusion that allows you to collect position and sensor data at precisely the same time with all the results retrievable through one easy to use software interface. www.aerotech.com

coherent will showcase its broad portfolio of lasers for scientific research, instrumentation, microelectronics and material processing. The emphasis continues to be on superior performance and ultimate reliability. Prime examples of this leadership are the ultrafast product lines now including higher

Avantes will be showcasing its AvaGigE USB to Ethernet converter device that allows the company’s Avaspec USB controlled spectrometers to plug into a gigabit Ethernet connection.

Enabling instrument control and data acquisition, the AvaGigE allows up to eight spectrometers to connect to the Ethernet using a USB hub and a web-based configuration utility. Once

power and more sophisticated amplifiers, and the all-new Vitara family of broadband hands-free oscillators. Hands-free ultrafast performance from the UV through the mid-IR is offered by Chameleon and its Compact OPO, ideally suited for microscopy and spectroscopy applications. In prominent display, Coherent’s unique optically pumped semiconductor lasers (OPSL) will be represented by the well-established Genesis product families – now offering new wavelength options – and by the new OBIS family of highly integrated, plug-and-play lasers.

Also on display will be the highly reliable and flexible Talisker Ultra DPSS laser, ideally suited for microelectronics applications in a 24/7 industrial environment. Rounding up this diverse portfolio is the HighLight 1000FL fibre laser designed to meet the most stringent materials processing demands. www.coherent.com

Frankfurt laser company will announce a new line up of LEDs and accompanying photodiodes (PD). Both LEDs and PDs operate

the connection has been configured the AvaSpec spectrometers can be addressed through Avantes’ proprietary AvaSoft operating software or the AS5216 DLL interface. The AvaGigE handles all synchronisation

in the mid-infrared range from 1.58µm to 4.45µm. Due to advances in measuring technology these LEDs are ideally suited for use in gas measurement. This can be measuring the concentration of a particular gas or the existence of a particular gas type within air.

Such sensors offer a reliable, instant and non-contact method of gas detection. The individual LEDs and photodiodes are cost effective and small enough to be integrated into the smallest of packages. Operating over a wide temperature range they can be used in a variety of environments. LEDs can be either used in quasi continuous wave or pulsed mode operation to obtain either a high average power output or a high peak power output. As an addition to the package options,

which are TO18 and TO5, both LEDs and PDs can be equipped with a parabolic reflector to either decrease beam divergence or increase the light gathering power respectively. www.frlaserco.com

Hamamatsu photonics will be introducing the latest range of photodetectors, image sensors, cameras and light sources. Other detectors on display include avalanche photodiodes, multi-pixel photon counters (silicon photomultipliers), hybrid photodetectors, linear array photomultiplier tubes and infrared detectors among others. Hamamatsu will also introduce the new range of CCD, CMOS and InGaAs image sensors in linear and 2D formats. Other products on display include scientific CMOS, EMCCD and CCD cameras and new quantum cascade lasers, xenon flash lamps and deuterium lamps. Also on display will be the new Micro- PMT, a next-generation photomultiplier tube (PMT) that combines the small size of solid state detectors with the high performance of a PMT. www.hamamatsu.co.uk
