Tech fi rms drive IT recruitment sector
TECH companies have become a driving force in the IT recruit- ment sector, claims an online recruitment website which has recorded a 19% annual increase in the volume of permanent jobs advertised by consultancies and software houses. Specialist IT

ment website CWJobs and JobAdsWatch reckons that overall growth in the IT recruit- ment sector has increased for nine consecutive quarters, how- ever in the last quarter growth has slowed to a 1% increase in permanent IT jobs. Contract IT pros working for tech firms have seen the most significant jump in demand with a 6% increase in job postings in the third quarter, says the firm.
“It will open up a number of opportunities for IT pros who are flexible enough to migrate from in-house to tech compa- nies in response to this trend.” Government plans to cut pub- lic sector IT costs by £1.4bn in four years through the proposed ICT Strategic Implementation Plan could worsen prospects in public sector recruitment, believes Nott.

Richard Nott, Website Director at CWJobs, noted: “This increase in demand is likely to be a result of the high- er levels of outsourcing being made by companies in an effort to reduce costs.
“Public sector recruitment has been hit by a 40% decrease in IT job posts year on year,” Nott observed. “However, there is a clear appetite for IT pros in the retail sector following a 24% increase in demand for contract IT pros and a 14% increase in perma- nent jobs year-on-year.”
Ascom links up with ANT Telecom
ON-SITE wireless communica- tion specialists Ascom UK has formed a strategic partnership with ANT Telecom.
The move forms part of
Ascom’s new campaign to add partners and sharpen its focus on the UK channel and has been described as a ‘logical step’ in raising awareness of expanding portfolio.

Growth in telepresence
SPENDING on enterprise-grade telepresence is expected to hit $1.1bn in 2016, growing with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.5% from 2011 to 2016, reckons Ovum.
The growth of the telep- resence market means many companies new to the technol- ogy will soon be making large purchasing decisions, says the research house in a new report. Ian Jacobs, a principal ana- lyst at Ovum and co-author of the report, commented: “Businesses will face a difficult
task in deciding on the right vendor in a particularly rapidly changing supplier marketplace. “They may return to their legacy video conferencing ven- dor for telepresence or look to new-breed video specialists. They might make the choice as a stand-alone decision or as part of a broader enterprise commu- nication strategy.”

video, and what business issues the technology will solve,” commented Jacobs. “Once businesses have identified their goals, they must consider what features they require from a telepresence vendor, he says. “The good news is that tele- presence products and services are now technologically mature and offer a range of productiv- ity-enhancing features and col- laboration tools,” added Jacobs.
