units. Needless to say, Bowser makes the different styles. All owners of C-630M units modified
the centralized air intake system on their units. Generally this involved re- moving the after-cooler shutters and radiators that covered the intakes as built. These were replaced by carbody filters. CN and CP followed the same modification scheme that involved eight new, angled filters per side, while BCOL opted for six per side in a flat arrangement. Bowser has duplicated the different modified arrangements and applied them to the appropriate paint schemes. The rear hood ends of the CN units
have notched corners with number boards while the CP units have the blank rounded end with only a single back-up light. The list of Canadian- specific details that Bowser has creat- ed and applied to these models in- cludes MLW style fuel tanks and more. A more detailed summary is provided on their website. Beautiful, state-of-the-art decorating compliments all these details. Even tiny lettering is crisp and clear, and the color matching is excellent. The grilles and vents are highlighted in
light gray. Now we come to the drive. The Bowser C-630 units are based on the original Stewart model, itself a smooth runner. Bowser has improved things here, as well. A new, heavier frame has been designed that makes for easier DCC and sound installation. The C- 630M registers a shade under 18 ounces on the scale, some three ounces heavier than a similar Stewart model. Pulling power is excellent and opera- tion is smooth and flawless. The Bowser C-630M is available
with sound by Soundtraxx and it is well worth the extra investment. The sound is amazing. This is no generic diesel locomotive noise. The reviewer, who grew up around the tracks in Montreal and worked on CP’s Revel- stoke Division during the MLW era there, can attest that this is the sound of a C-630M. The prime mover sound is absolutely correct. If you know the pro- totype units, it will make the hair stand up on the back on your neck. Whether the credit goes to Bowser or Soundtraxx, they have nailed it. Only the horn sound needs to be changed. As they come out of the box the models have an American horn
