ALASKA

Where is Central Europe? Run your finger over a map of the continent, from Holland and Belgium... to Warsaw, Prague, Budapest and legendary cities along the Danube... down to the Black Sea... up through Italy to Venice... to Italian mountain lakes and the rugged Tyrolean Alps... through the forests and castles of Bavaria... to the famous peaks of Switzerland... circling back up the Moselle through France to the Netherlands... Wherever you’ve traced, and everywhere in between, we go there... on land trips, riverboat cruises, family travel adventures...

& HAWAII

Imagine a place in Alaska where bald eagles are as common as seagulls along

the coast, where, through a natural phenomenon, the river never freezes and the salmon are plentiful. In fact, there was a time when there were so many bald eagles here that they were considered a threat to the fishing industry and it was legal to hunt them. Today there are only about 400 resident eagles at the Chilkat Eagle Preserve, but when the salmon are running there can be as many as 4,000, making this the largest eagle habitat in the world. Come ready to be impressed. The backdrop is stunning, the birds are breathtaking – and the photography opportunities are endless...

When Hawaiian King David Kalakaua built himself a royal palace in 1882, inspired by the

palazzos he had seen in Italy, his fiscally conservative critics in the legislature deplored the extravagance (many of his predecessors, after all, had lived in grass houses). But Iolani Palace in Honolulu was where Kalakaua entertained dignitaries and heads of state – sovereign equals on the world stage – where, in fact, you’ll join us for a gala evening of dinner and entertainment in a setting whose opulent halls, sumptuous grounds, and eye-opening history make this a house fit for a king.

Hawaii is a work in progress and you can see it being made – and re-made – at Volcanoes

National Park, where the constant lava flow from fiery Kilauea adds land mass every year, altering the bizarre sculpted landscape right down to the sea. There is a whole world underground, with the lava tube being the conduit... it erupts in mighty clouds of steam where molten rock and water meet. And the most unusual feature in these steaming “moonscapes”? This unique setting of volcanic drama also boasts an unrivaled natural beauty of lush rainforests filled with rare birds...
