At the USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals, over 20 collegiate recruits competed, with four placing top ten overall. Kaleb VanOrt (Notre Dame runner) won the title by three minutes and Jeff Helmer (Arizona State runner) placed third after just fi nishing his collegiate running eligibility in June. Another six recruits earned top-10 fi nishes in their age groups, including Reilly Keirnan (Princeton runner), who had the fastest female run split and was only outrun by eight men. Three recruits, Jorgensen (Wisconsin runner & swimmer), Sean Jeff erson (Indiana runner) and Kaitlin Shiver (Florida runner), raced their fi rst Elite National Championship event.

Youth and Junior Development The formalization of the High Performance Team model has created a sound infrastructure and has heightened domestic draft-legal competition. This increased focus on a team structure also led to strong participation (over 30 teams) in the fi rst-ever mixed team relay at the USA Triathlon Youth and Junior National Championship event in San Diego. With this format as a possible addition in the 2016 Olympic Games program, the introduction into our competitive pipeline puts the U.S. ahead of the development curve.

2010 Select Camps took place in San Antonio, Texas; Chula Vista, Calif.; Tampa, Fla.; and Brookings, S.D. The average number of athletes served by each camp was 20. USA Triathlon used a 5-to-1 athlete-to-coach ratio for all development camps, which were held in June and July.

2010 Skills Camps took place in San Antonio, Texas; Monterrey, Calif.; Clermont, Fla.; and Norton, Mass. The average number of athletes served by each camp was 20 and the same athlete-to-coach ratio was applied.

In October 2010, USA Triathlon held its fi rst dedicated meeting of Camp Directors in Providence, R.I. The meeting allowed for sharing of best practices, planning for 2011 and the development of standard operating procedures for all USA Triathlon development camps.
