[from the CEO]

Welcome to the 2010 USA Triathlon Annual Report. As a longtime triathlete, I felt very fortunate to be named Chief Executive Offi cer of our National Governing Body in the spring of 2011. I knew I was about to lead an organization that has been enjoying an unprecedented period of success, including 2010. Throughout this report you can read in detail about one of the most successful years in the history of the organization. As the fastest growing sport in the Olympic Movement – including a 17% average annual membership growth rate since 2000 – that’s saying something.

But, just as importantly, I’d like to take this opportunity to share our vision and direction for the future. And how I believe we can take our white-hot sport to even greater heights.

There are many individuals to credit for last year’s success, and these same people are helping accomplish our

goals moving forward: USA Triathlon is fortunate to possess an extremely talented, dedicated and committed national offi ce staff who I am further challenging to better serve our broad constituency. Regarding volunteer leadership, one would be hard pressed to fi nd a collection of more passionate, engaged and sage stewards for the sport than our Board of Directors. I also thank our race directors, who form the backbone of our sport. There would be no triathletes without you, and your entrepreneurial spirit enables our members to have many options to fully experience an array of multisport.

Athletes come to multisport for diff erent reasons – a transformational life change, social opportunities, expansion of a fi tness repertoire or maybe just satisfying an instinctive need to compete.

But each multisport athlete has at least one thing in common – a fi rst race.

If you’re one of us, you know what I’m talking about. Do you remember how you felt crossing that fi nish line for the fi rst time? Now imagine being able to bottle that elation and then unleash it when facing life’s challenges.

A key aspect of my role as CEO is to harness that same emotion and provide value to our constituencies, whether they are age-groupers, race directors, coaches, offi cials, Regions, clubs, elite athletes and Olympians, sponsors or volunteers.

To that end, USA Triathlon’s new burning imperative is to enable “wins” in the broadest sense. I call it “Sharing the Win.” This includes wins on the podium at international races, wins by delivering a return on engagement for corporate sponsors, wins by providing better service for race directors, and wins by inspiring individuals to embrace the lifestyle and complete their fi rst triathlon.

Specifi cally, some of our priorities for 2011 are to:

• Develop a national youth program • Launch a new website (usatriathlon.org) • Restructure our IT operations to support a new race sanctioning module and membership database platform • Continue to elevate the overall presentation of our National Championships and Elite Race Series • Support our National Team athletes in their bid for medals on the international stage, and expand our developmental pipeline • Enhance and increase our resources and educational off erings for race directors, coaches and offi cials and provide more relevant programming to membership

• Develop a Paratriathlon High Performance Plan with sights set on the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro

I hope the 2010 Annual Report helps you learn more about USA Triathlon and better understand our goals and objectives as an organization. Moreover, I hope it encourages you to fuel the multisport lifestyle in your own unique way – and be a part of Sharing The Win! Sincerely,

Rob Urbach CEO, USA Triathlon
