Paratriathlon made headlines with the announcement of its inclusion in the program for the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The sport demonstrated continued growth and set participation records at the Accenture USA Paratriathlon National Championship in New York City.


Additionally, collegiate triathlon continued to demonstrate massive growth. USA Triathlon and the Collegiate Committee continued to develop the rules and guidelines of collegiate triathlon to enhance the experience and generate more opportunities for athletes. Additionally, USA Triathlon continued its work with the NCAA to fi nalize its proposal to have triathlon designated as an Emerging Sport for Women and, hopefully, a scholarship sport in the future.


BY THE NUMBERS • For the fi rst time USA Triathlon’s Age Group, Sprint and Elite National Championships were held in 1 combined weekend of events • Duathlon Nationals had 1,805 participants in 2010, setting a record for the second straight year • Team USA athletes garnered 75 podium fi nishes at ITU World Championship events in 2010 • A record number of 70 paratriathletes participated at the 2010 Accenture USA Paratriathlon National Championship in New York City • The fi rst-ever team relay at the 2010 Junior Nationals saw 43 teams compete in San Diego
