cles or challenges I face, I can see that today I am making an impact in my community and inspiring people to live their dreams.

My motivation My family keep me motivated, especially my younger brother, who became ill in 2007 and is slowly back on the road to recovery, and, of course, my mother as I have seen what she has been through and I am proud that I have inherited her values. I have a very supportive husband and

my kids are just great. Tey have a keen interest in what I do and I am now teach- ing them to follow their own path and to always work hard.

Challenges and hurdles One of the worst challenges for me as a business owner was the recent economic downturn. I didn’t know if my business would survive, even though I was looking at various options and diversifying where possible to create multiple streams of in- come. I opened new companies, Colours media and Black TV Guide, as well as starting an online magazine for wom- en: Diva Visions. It was a tough time but thankfully I have a good team who are supportive, hard-working and encouraged me to go on. I really didn’t want to make anyone redundant and I am happy to say we survived unscathed.

Advice for NAW readers Always set a goal, in business and in your personal life, and then work hard towards that goal. No matter how difficult it may seem or how far you are from achieving it, you will get there! No one has achieved success without encountering failures along the way, so as long as you keep walk- ing a positive path you will get to your final destination come rain or shine. My book details how to use PR and market- ing effectively, how to think strategically, to plan and then to evaluate everything in business so you can learn from your mistakes. It also emphasises the impor- tance of social media, understanding fi- nances, networking and staying positive. However, although it is great to be suc- cessful in business, never neglect your personal life. It is crucial for the success of your business that once outside of the office, everything is running smoothly. Friends, family, health and faith should all be maintained to a high standard.
