London Fashion Week Africa’s style

ondon has always been a fashion Mecca of the world – where women look to for trends and style. However, the hosting of Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL), took the city to new heights,
attracting scores of fashion critics, bloggers and journalists from around the globe who wanted to see why African fashion is the talk of town. AFWL was one of the most talked about events of the British summer 2011. But just when we thought we could take off our heels and soak our feet in hot lavender after all the dashing from one catwalk show to another, the British capital entranced us with yet more of Africa’s established and emerging designers – for London Fashion Week! Worth a particular mention were the shows organised by Fashion’s Finest and Mahogany Models, who really kept the New African Woman team constantly on their fashionably sore feet.

pregnant Beyoncé looked as radiant as ever during her appearance at London Fashion Week with her just as ever stunning mother, Tina Knowles. A powerful mother and daughter team, together they launched their latest range of House of Deréon,
African-inspired ‘Nomad’ collection at the world famous Lon- don department store Selfridges.
House of Deréon is a ready-to-wear fashion line introduced by singer and actress Beyoncé and her mother/stylist Tina in 2004. House of Deréon’s tagline is “
Couture.Kick.Soul” which represents the three generations of women. Agnèz Deréon (mother of Tina Knowles) is the “soul,” Tina is the “couture”, and Beyoncé is the “kick”.
