Sustainment

Efficient and cost-effective support for Bowman

The BowmanCIP Sustainment programme has now reached full contract acceptance, ensuring that the UK MoD will benefit from a value for money solution to sustaining the fielded capability of this critical technology.

Delivering increased capability

General Dynamics UK reached full contract acceptance with the DE&S BATCIS Delivery Team for the programme which will run until 31 March 2013.

The £110 million contract takes advantage of efficiencies gained

through lessons learned during the past two years (and two separate parallel contracts). Significantly, given the current challenging financial environment, it will achieve cost savings of around 20 per cent.

The BCIP Sustainment programme will integrate in-service

support and development activities, consequently moving BCIP through baseline BCIP5.4 onto baseline BCIP5.5, delivering increased capability in a highly cost-effective way.

This sustainment element of the BowmanCIP programme makes

a significant step towards unifying the end user ‘office experience’ when moving between UK MoD systems in theatre. It also helps to ensure a value for money solution across BCIP and other UK MoD fielded programmes.

Protected mobility on display

General Dynamics UK had a significant presence at the recent Protected Mobility Display & Sustainment Conference (PMDSC) at Millbrook Proving Ground.

The two-day exhibition and conference provided the opportunity for UK MoD and DE&S to inform industry of the issues relating to the mobility capability area, and the sustainment of those capabilities.

The first day saw a number of strategic MoD

presentations, including Col Mark Gaunt, HQ JFSp(A), Comd Eqpt Cap, presenting front line realities from Afghanistan. The second day included discussions on the issues created by a UOR approach to equipment procurement.

General Dynamics UK was strongly represented

at the event and took the opportunity to promote the significant technology advancements of the Core Infrastructure Distribution System (CIDS) and the Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS), both demonstrated on a Jackal platform. The Company also highlighted the delivery of Scout SV as the game changing reconnaissance platform for the Army.

The exhibition and conference produced several

meetings with key stakeholders from across the customer community.
