technical implementation that secured its lead role on the project. “We showed a thorough understanding of the customer’s technical and implementation requirements,” says Andrea Floris, President of Page Europa. “This allowed us to offer the customer comprehensive solutions that not only met the specified needs, but went beyond.”

Page Europa was also able to focus considerable

resources on the project, including highly qualified people with experience in project management, engineering construction.

Over the course of nearly three years, the

Company – in partnership with Al-Jaber, one of the most respected firms in the country – will manage the integration of the Port Operating System as well as a wide range of systems.

Among these are all the telecommunications

systems – radio, wired and wireless networks – as well as power and control systems. The latter include Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA), Building Management System (BMS), Power Line Communication (PLC) and vessel tracking systems.

environment for a highly diverse range of industries serving countries around the world.

Special systems

With such an important project, with a vital role in the nation’s economy, security, communications and control systems will be critical to the safe and efficient functioning of the facility. And Page Europa was the natural choice for providing the port special systems for KPIZ.

The company has extensive experience

in advanced security and resilience projects. For example, it is providing the security, telecommunications and IT systems for the Pearl project in which Qatar Petroleum and Royal Dutch Shell are building the world’s largest Gas To Liquid (GTL) facility.

Europa’s integration of surveillance, scanning and intrusion detection and access control systems, x-ray scanning, with the latter including gate management and vehicle monitoring. Add to that navigational aids, such as buoys and beacons, fire alarms and meteorological systems and it amounts to a complex infrastructure that will provide an operational backbone for the port as well as keeping it safe well into the future.

Every aspect

Page Europa’s fully integrated turnkey solution covers from the design and procurement of components and sub-systems, through installation, testing and commissioning to training of staff and ongoing operation and maintenance.

As well as the huge significance of this project

for Abu Dhabi and the region, it is also a milestone for Page Europe and General Dynamics UK. The International Ship and Port Security (ISPS) Code, introduced in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, is driving the modernisation of port facilities across the globe, and especially among the Gulf states. With its experience on projects such as KPIZ and Pearl, Page Europa / General Dynamics UK are well positioned to assist governments and port operators in bringing their facilities up to the required standards while also improving their ability to conduct international trade in a way that will attract business and support more diverse economies.
