The company reported these advances in two papers delivered during the Society of Photo- optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) Optics + Photonics Conference, being held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, CA from August 21 - 25, 2011.


Dr. Vadim Adamovich, Research Team Leader at Universal Display, presented record-breaking ope- rating lifetimes and other performance advances for the company’s white OLED lighting panels in a paper titled “High Performance Phosphorescent White Stacked OLEDs for Solid State Lighting.” He reported that the company’s 15 x 15cm2


panel, using a stacked OLED (SOLED) architecture, exceeds the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) com- mercial panel target of 10,000 hours (at an initial luminance of 3,000 candelas per square meter (cd/ m2


)) by more than 20%.


Typically, the company reports white OLED lighting panel performance based on a simple red-green- blue (RGB) OLED design that uses a minimal number of layers. This SOLED design incorporates more layers as a means to significantly extend device lifetime. The single RGB OLED design should re- quire fewer steps to manufacture, while the stacked OLED design can enhance lifetime performance and is gaining momentum in the industry. Dr. Peter Levermore, Research Scientist at Universal Display, also presented recent advances in a paper titled “Phosphorescent OLEDs for High Efficacy Long Lifetime Solid State Lighting.” During his talk, he showcased an all-phosphorescent, white OLED lumi- naire designed into an under-cabinet lighting system as an example of an application that white OLED panels are ready to address.


Recently, Universal Display Corporation announced its results for the second quarter of 2011. Revenues for the second quarter of 2011 were $11,252,415, a 33% increase compared to revenues of $8,446,829 in the same quarter a year ago. Commercial reve- nue, which includes commercial chemical revenue, license and royalty revenues, and commercialization assistance revenue, was $5,278,704 for the quarter, compared to $1,951,892 for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 170%.
